Stu, this post intregued me.
I have changed my breakfast to yogurt, a banana, and granola. Maybe not super healthy but if I eat this at 7am, I'm not hungry until maybe 230pm, and then I'll not be hungry maybe until the next day... But I still eat tea.
I've not had tea for two nights to see how hungry I get and I don't. I had jam roly poly the other day, smaller than what I gave the mrs and I still donated most of it to her as I just couldn't eat it.
I love food. I don't know why I am not hungry though.

I do find that the more I eat, the more I want to eat. I think it's the same as 'the more I drank, the better she looked'.

Related, it took me a good while after starting intermittent fasting to recognise what actual hunger felt like... vs just sorta wanting to eat something.
You'd think someone had tortured some people if they go a couple of hours past when they expected to eat.

Yeah, a lot of people do. Not uncommon as an indicator of metabolic inflexibility (basically unless you have a decent amount of sugar in your blood, your body freaks out as it's not good at burning fat / glycogen stores to compensate).
Quite normal with diets very high in carbs / for people that graze.

What IS an empty calorie anyway?
It's an Ultra-Processed Food calorie that makes you feel empty by altering the receptors in your brain, to switch off the "satisfied" feeling and switch on the "hungry" feeling
