Anyone else only eat once a day?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I know some people gasp in horror at the thought but I only really eat if I'm hungry and that usually means once a day and generally in the early(ish) evening. I might partake in a few nuts or a bit of cheese in the afternoon sometimes but in the main, I only eat a meal once every 24 hours.

Anyone else or am I really weird?

There's a range of "normal" and you're within it. Work arranged a lecture with Dr John Briffa during "health and wellbeing" week last year.
One of the matters he discussed is it's normal to eat when you're hungry: for some it's just a morning coffee, then an evening dinner; for others it's grazing through the day.

One simple point he mentioned is that if you eat a main meal in the evening, the energy will still be in you to use the following day. Another is reduce one's starch intake as we evolved to each fresh veg, meat and fish rather than farmed starches (pasta, rice, spuds, bread) so that's what our bodies are best suited to.
His final point was: any exercise is better than nothing, so just keep moving \:d/ .

Simple really, but sometimes one needs these things explaining by an articulate expert :-).

Me, my Dad and my daughter apparently have genetics that means we are always hungry! I have to actively stop myself earing continuously.

However my step-daughtet can firget ro eat all day.

I think I'd prefer that.

I find if I am busy I can go all day without food, the odd black coffee is enough. I quite like eating only once a day.
If I have nothing to do, as can happen at work sometimes I tend to graze all day. I guess that's boredom.

I do tend to eat less when I'm actively engaged in something, but often that doesn't work out well because I stop doing what I'm doing, eat anything I can get my hands on, and then have sit down for 2 hours.

Twice a day here. I can never eat first thing in the morning, I'm always nauseous in the morning and never get any appeitie until about noon. When I get home from work I usually have a big bowl of porridge then an evening meal later on.

Eating when hungry. That's actually very good for you. If you must know, also, in Islam (we go by Muhammed PBUH and Jesus PBUH and the rest of the prophets being a perfect blueprint of how life should be conducted/led) Muhammed PBUH actually taught us that very thing and in similar words.

Bet you have a very healthy body in general Stu as there's a saying (from the herbal doctors) that all diseases eminate from the gut. Well done, keep doing it, I shiuld too :-bd

The only reason I don't eat ALL the time is that my office is currently two floors away from the kitchen. But every time I get a drink, I get something to eat. I love eating, makes me happy

I had a talk from Dr John Briffa about 12 years ago, it was ace. I changed a few eating habits because of that - no caffeine in the afternoon, no more margarine, awareness of GI - and they're still with me today

Is there such as thing as "sleep eating" (similar to sleep walking) I wonder? You could do 24hr eating then!

So basically you're admitting that at some point in your ancestry someone had it away with a labrador?

It must be where you also get your adorable eyes

Anyone else or am I really weird?
yes but that was before you shared this

I do what i call graze i eat a lot of times a day but very rarely an actual massive meal and almost never breakfast.
Even at xmas i cannot force myself to gorge and pig out I just feel full and horrible for it. I doubt i could go 12 hours without food [ awake]

Then again I am vegan so not much of my food is not calorie dense which may be a factor but its so long since i ate meat i dont recall what i did then .

Essentialy we are all different and if it works for you and your weight is appropriate i dont think its worth worrying about personally.

If I let myself, I would pretty much graze all day but my main meals don't tend to be huge so it mostly evens out. When I'm cycling for any length of time, I'm pretty much continuously chewing.

Those of you that, like me, eat continuously and are hungry if you don't - do you find the flip side of it is that you're able to eat (and, importantly, digest) great quantities when needed (e.g. long rides)?

I'm grateful for my ability to do that (e.g. smash a large fish and chips immediately before the Correyairack Pass) - endurance sports are an eating contest, as they say - but also assumed it was the other side of that particular coin. Metabolic rate, basically, in my limited understanding of such things.

I think that often or maybe sometimes, those who don't eat that much, don't have to. I'm no athlete but I can generally just keep churning it out with very little going in. Whenever I rode with Mike, I reckon he'd probably put away around 3 times the amount of food I would per day.

So how many fags did Mike smoke to suppress his appetite compared to you?

No-one has mentioned metabolism yet, that's surely the key factor to how much food a person needs to intake every day?

Just a thought

I used to sleep eat as a toddler/young kid. My parents even put a bolt on the kitchen door high up. Apparently my nana was staying once and was confused how to get in the kitchen and i got a chair climbed up and showed her there was a bolt.

Then my parents removed the little nub from the bolt!😂

The less carbs I eat, the less hungry I am. I really notice this in the morning - a fried egg on a slice of bread in the morning and I am good till lunchtime - if I have two slices of toast and jam instead then I'm in a howling wasteland of hunger by mid morning.

Joe is much like you Stu - he would hardly eat at all if I didn't put food in front of him. I do it because he gets very grumpy if he doesn't eat.

Hmmmmm.
