Travers Ti frames - pay what you can afford.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I see you can purchase a Travers DIRTi or RUSSTi frame for the price you think. Quite obviously there is a minimum price but otherwise you're free to pay what you like.

If they'd had the fatbike frame on that deal I'd have been very tempted.

I've always seen Mr Travers as an all round humble and nice bloke. Ever since seeing his report on his BB200 attempt (I think at same time as Colin) and then buying a cheap 'seconds' fork off him which he warranted fully for me...

Well done and nice of him to make such a deal...

I was just looking at the DirTi too, why, why? Pressfit is proven junk, why do people still bother?

Morning, I dont want to get into the PF30/is crap or not. I know some people have had bad experiences but that is down to poor frame tolerances or poor BB's because of this I also offer an option to convert it to T47, so this should get rid of any concerns people might have.

Just for balance, I have 3 bikes with PF BBs.

The fatbike is the newest, I've only had it 18 months, but it has seen the worst conditions. It's still on the original BB.

The Occam is now 5 years old. It's had one replacement BB (after a winter hanging up in my garage).

The Agree is now 11 years old. It's still on the original BB.

Oooh, you are an evil man! Putting temptation in our way.

Does the frame come with new garage for storage?

PS: PF can go in the same bin as sprouts and Marmite!

I have no problems with the two bikes I have with PF [both salsa] but i would not choose it [if i had the choice] as its clearly a design that is going to have more isues than threaded.

My wheels wont fit the travers so thankfully I dont need to get lustful-lovely fames

I suggest you buy the frame (bike Build) and let the bikes fight out who stays in the garage, As I said above I can thread the PF30 BB and make it a T47 if you prefer.

Me too

There’s a definite DIRTi type itch

I suspect if I knew SWMBOS events industry job was secure I’d be hitting a few drams later before hitting the **** it just buy it button

I do wonder if there’s a hidden bonus to going high with the pricing options.

Except Pressfit isn't proven junk. There are some awful implementations of it but done properly, PF is a perfectly fine standard. Bashing brands that can't manufacture correctly is fine, but bashing the standard makes no sense.

I'm another PF30 fan.
Have two of them currently on Chinese Ti frames which may or may not be from the same place the Travers ones come from. They have been trouble free.
One of them creaked initially but I refitted it with a smear of bearing retainer and it's been trouble free (on a grubby fatbike) for two years now.

I like having the option of fitting an EBB if required.

An excellent thing to do!
I'm on the dole (10 months now), and would really appreciate it if I needed something! However, I already have all the bikes I need.
Good on you though.

RE: PF30, my Rose CX bike has one. I bought it in 2014 and have commuted every winter on it (other than this one as I don't have a job!). Done about 15,000 miles now and still on original, creak free BB....

Any chance the offer will be getting entwnded to road bikes any time in the future. Just wondering. Something with capability to take fatter tires

Thanks again Travers sir
