Be careful out there

Post by HUX »

Be careful out there folks in the dark.
Partner is currently in A&E after going out early this morning for a quick blast and hit a sizeable branch in the road resulting in suspected broken collar bone, pelvic and head injuries. She was probably travelling 25mph+ downhill and was found in the middle of the road by a motorist who called an ambulance and managed to get my number so I went to the scene.
Still sat at home waiting for news as not allowed in the hospital.
Helmet did its job hopefully, its cracked like an egg. Make sure you all wear 1. It could happen to any of us. We all do it , flat out when we probably shouldn't be.

Thanks guys. Update, broken collarbone in 2 places so in a slingand bruising everywhere else, aching all over. Hospital deciding whether she can come home tonight. Just spoke to the guy who found her in the road and he didn't see her till the last minute so it could have been a lot worse. She was very lucky. Looks like im chief washer upper for a few weeks

sub standard Leigh, that's horrible. Not sure how an accident like this can be avoided, sounds like she was lucky not to get run over as well. Hope she heals quickly, washing up can be hell

Oh, crap! Hope she recovers quickly. Presumably the collarbone is stable despite being broken in two places, that's usually a starter for pinning.

Look on the bright side: at least you'll have nice soft hands from all that washing up :-bd

Ooof, sounds unlucky. Hope she mends up quick

Things like this make you see the benefit of hi vis clothing. Your bike can be as lit as anything but if you're not on it, you're not that visible. Unless of course you're wearing a light

Same problem on a motorbike

Yeah, I know a lad who died that way Ben. It wasn't the crash that killed him but the car who ran over him, thinking he was a bin bag lay in the road.

Hope your partners on the mend and not too scarred by that near miss (for potentially worse).
Thanks for the reminders.
same on all kinds of bikes... go down on a roundabout on diesel and the worry is what’s coming behind you that doesn’t stop!

The bike  2 buckled wheels , scuffed lever and trashed bar tape. I think her body took most of the impact. The branch was almost parallel with the verge just slightly on the piss so the front wheel was whipped from under her and she was down. Shes doing ok, just got a 2nd night in hospital and another x-ray to look forward to. The staff have been brilliant apparently, really looking after her. :-bd
