If you want cheap, waterproof gloves get working gloves with latex or PVC coating.
We get them here for a tenner (well... swiss francs).

I used to go through light weight mountaineering gloves by a stupid rate when mixed climbing and dry tooling (yeah... Petzl Ergonomics full of grip tape) and started to use gardening/working gloves instead. They did the job just as good and I had more money for (other) drugs.

Showa. Designed for Japanese trawlermen. A step up from Marigolds but the same basic concept.

I’ve been using the stolen goat winter gloves this winter, first pair of gloves I’ve found that actually keep the water out!

I bought some from screwfix to try a while a go.
Bought xl hoping for something like an extremities tuff bag I could put over other gloves in crap weather, only with fingers.
Turned out pretty snug - I guess Japanese fishermen have tiny hands?

So they are certainly cheap and unsurprisingly not very breathable. Definitely tougher / gripper than a marigold and pack down very small.

Oh and you look like you’ve got smurf hands.

I asked that in my post too but then deleted it because I thought I was being stupid . Obviously I wasn't then . Just been reading up about PU but not much wiser yet.

No idea if it's true.

I would only expect to wear them for short periods during the heaviest showers that would drench any wool or woven fabric based glove.

I bought some Skytec Argon gloves the other week. They have a brushed fleece lining, water resistant body with a waterproof coating over the fingers and palm (some of the back too). They're not bulky, fit well and around £6.

Farmers favourites stu - very warm for doing jobs in crap weather. Water gets in the backs fairly easy though, so not much cop for biking.

I gave up yonks ago trying to find the holy grail of waterproof gloves and ended up with Buffalo Mitts. Not cheap and not waterproof but... they are comfortable when wet and dry very quickly. Dexterity is not brilliant but they are easy-on/easy-off without that clammy, stick-to-your-fingers feeling. Bit like pogies but on your hands rather than your handlebars

Used these for work and they've been pretty effective, never ridden in them though.

I've used rain pogies instead (uninsulated), then I can used any full fingers all year round..

Problem with skytec argons is they are difficult to dry when wet. They're popular with ice climbers because they're cheap, robust and dextrous

Yep, big fan of buffalo mitts too, for exact same reasons

I made some rain pogies great for colder season cycling, they're rain & windproof. Uninsulated, bonus they do pack up smaller than inner gloves. They're ideal for flat bar.. I've yet to see if my pattern works with drop bars... I shamesless got the idea from here
