Also, I'm wondering whether it's fair game to take the p1ss out of hipsters because I'm assuming that (a) no one believes themselves to be one (b) they'd never openly call themselves that. It's like w@nkers, there's plenty out there but rarely does anyone say, "hey I'm a w@nker" ... just a thought.

Re: Mapping Article by Guy Kesteven ("Mapsturbation")
I love paper maps. Always have. But having them digitised and easily available online has made a massive difference, especially using site like https://maps.nls.uk/. Having the ability to overlay maps of different periods, to see how route lines have changed, settlements grown, rivers meandered, lochs grown or shrunk etc. help create a whole new understanding of what we currently see.
Also, a wee tale... many moons ago, when I was an ardent Munro bagger, I had a couple of remote Munros to climb, They are near Corrour and quite some distance from the road. Conventional wisdom and all the guidebooks suggested the early train to Corrour station, a quick march along the loch, up the two mountains, back down, a quick march back and the last train back out. It was only when looking at the map in the Anquet application that the access track to the north of the hills suddenly appeared to take you quite close. That track was on the adjacent sheet to the two Munros so you wouldn't necessarily have spotted it without the "seamless" view that the app gave you. As a result, my mate and I cycled in, did the two Munros, cycled back out and got back to the car around 2pm.

Yes but that's the point. Taking the p1ss out of hipsters isn't actually taking the p1ss out of anyone because no one (I assume) considers themselves to be one, so in theory, no one should ever be offendedOh no! Here comes Gripper Stebson again

Wouldn’t you cast a shadow on it?
I’m also pretty fond of drawing on my maps

Or you could head over here,
https://www.lovemapson.com/
You could wallpaper an entire wall in a custom map or tile your bathroom in glorious OS maps of Wales
They also do glass splash backs which would be fun with a set of white board markers.
Just imagine you could sit in the bathtub planning your next trip.

Few years old now but still makes me smile https://youtu.be/lVmmYMwFj1I
And talking of map porn, at the last place I worked they had these incredible 8 foot square 3d relief maps gathering dust in a cupboard not used since the arrival of PowerPoints in classrooms.

I can think of at least one forum member who comes very close to qualifying:Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 9:56 am Just going back to the hipster issue - surely, they all use paper maps already? Do they not favour the 'traditional' - Brooks, Carradice, etc?
