Wow! that's something pegged onto a working day, never mind fasting during the day :-bd
Not always each way... sadly, but I do try and aim for it  Been working up to it since my first commutes of a few miles on the mtb in 2000ish...

The no water part is harsh. In the context of cycling it’s worth remembering that right up into the 60’s the commonly held belief was that ‘too much’ water during exercise was a bad thing and that it led to cramps. TdF cyclists would often be limited to a single piss bottle for an entire stage of the race

Well I had a nose (bag) dive this afternoon

Had a great 1.5hr hilly road ride last night, but then a restless night with the knee on one leg and the wrenched big toe (that I practically dislocated two weeks ago in a stupid bike related incident) on the other keeping me awake.

Still cracked on with work at the kitchen table office today before heading out with an overly sensible lunch in my bag to check on some path works and meet a crofter. By the time I got home with the walking and driving my toe was really killing and I was starving.

By 3pm I'd made myself two minute steak rolls, eaten a bag of hoola hoops and then a bowl of shredded wheats  The perils of working from home!

Summoning all myself control I said NO to tea when my wife came home (confessing my sins) and miraculously have still kept to my daily calories,so not all is lost!

And despite being pissed off as I'm sofa bound on a nice evening to rest toe and knee I've just refused homemade popcorn too!

The main culprit I think was a low cal day yesterday followed by an evening ride with no food during or after, then bad sleep and a grumpy bear due to being caged up with poorly paws.

Anyway the takeaway is that a dive in the trough doesn't need to mean you wallow in there. I must be a reformed character :-bd

Last night I completed my fast with all the food the missus had put in my lunchbox/bag. So came time to start the fast at 0300ish I hadn't any food. Trawled across to the vending machine and it hadn't be restocked.

Then I had a plan, I wasn't gonna let discipline and self-control hold me back and ordered an Uber. Never arrived so I called the place who said order hadn't come through. Time would have been too tight to order over the phone then so I settled with 2 mochas from the vending machine. Free n'all. 500ml of bottled water and I was done.

Bet I've lost summat for this morning, will check as soon as I gets in... God Willing

Well done indeed!!

For me lately it seems I can maintain (with a bit of fluctuation) and carry on scoffing loads of buttery toast and pie. Which is fine if I wanted to stay at my current weight (having lost a lump in 2020) but I don't.

So, a couple of days ago I returned to my methodology from this time last year. Basically I seem to be able to get losses if I monitor my weight almost daily. I think its the knowledge that self judgement is coming first thing in the morning.
I'll also be back to monitoring on here. From my data last year, I dont expect much actual loss for the first week or so, then some progress.

I'll keep my 21 start but I am ignoring everything else and starting again today.

So, here we go. :-bd
Target - 90kg

Start 2021, 97.7kg
30/04/21, 98.1kg

Great work all, got to admit, I slept through my weigh in today, I will weigh in next Friday, to be honest I prefer a two week check in as it takes the stress off my shoulders.

01/01/21: 72.5kg
-------------
16/04/21: 61.5kg (-0.5kg)
23/04/21: 60.6kg (-0.9kg)
30/04/21: 60.6kg (-0.0kg)

Target: Maintain between 59 and 61kg until 12/06/21.
-------------

Added in another 100kcal last week, and had a few bad days (still pretty depressed) so I'll take flat overall. I'll probably add the extra 100kcal again on Monday but that'll likely be it, as I'm fairly sure that'll result in some weight gain.

Badly need to improve sleep / reduce stress.

Surely double the stress next week?

I'm a big believer in daily weigh-ins with an eye kept on a rolling average. Individual days can fluctuate anywhere up to 2-3kg in my experience (especially after a very long ride, both up and down). Catch an up on the wrong weekly weigh in and you're left with an impression that you've done a ton worse than you probably actually have.

One of the advantages of modern smart scales, if you can't deal with seeing the daily number bounce around you can just cover the display and have your phone collect the data and then check the rolling average on a weekly basis (I believe both iPhone and Android support this).

You can even get specific apps that can calculate what's going on in the background... https://happyscale.com/

I had breakfast yesterday without thinking about it so didn’t weigh myself until this morning.

16/4/2021 70.0
23/4/2021 70.0
1/5/2021 70.3

It’s not been a good week since it looks like I didn’t give myself enough time after hurting my ankle and now it’s worse than it was before. The good news is that after 3 weeks of not rigorously tracking every single calorie I’ve got a feel for what my maintenance level is, the bad news is that I’m still aiming for 2-3 kg more.

Can I ask what advantages you get from modern scales please?
I've got some pretty aging super basic ones, they don't really tell me anything other than a kg number to one dp. After I finally get them to turn on by pulling the battery in and out.

I then type the number into a tracker on excel, with accompanying graph obviously.

I keep thinking of replacing but have resisted to date.

Largely inaccurate fat percentage calculations aside, the only meaningful advantage was what I stated. They'll allow you to track your weight without actively paying attention to the daily number (handy if you get emotionally affected by it).

I don't actually use a smart scale, but mostly by virtue of not wanting to buy one until multi-frequency BIA scales become more reasonably priced... but people seem happy enough with the crappy accuracy on normal BIA scales, so I don't think that's ever going to happen.

Like you, I do the excel spreadsheet method, but I don't get overly stressed about individual numbers (mostly because I've been doing this stuff for years so I understand the fluctuations well).

Another week of absolute inactivity due to having a vasectomy (bright purple ballooning only just subsiding and things still too tender to ride and that's without considering increased chance of infection from hot sweatiness etc...).

On the plus side I've been comfort eating like a mother flipper! :-bd

Mostly staying sensible with booze though and very, VERY keen and motivated to double down and get back on top of things just as soon as I can get back in the saddle.....

Gairym: ouch  you're right to be cautious. I had an infection despite being super careful. Ended up off for a month and on two courses of strong antibiotics as the wound wouldn't heal  Worst thing is after all that the fekking thing didn't work! They offered to redo it. I declined!

Worst bit was stood there with my pants around my ankles getting the wound swabbed, by the GP who son was in my son's class. A touch embarrassing!

Ouchy!!!

I'm fairly optimistic it'll work as he removed two 20mm sections of the vasa deferentia, cortorised the ends and then showed me the bits he took out (before throwing them in the bin when I said I didn't want to take them home with me - I thought about it, maybe setting them in epoxy and creating a piece of jewelry for Mrs Gairy)

Surely it's got to work done that way, no?

Because there is NO WAY I am going through that again!!!

You'd think it would!

I don't know the details. I went in for a local, but after a good grope he decided it would be better under a GA for both of us as the piping seemed awkward. Numbers were down in the after tests, but not gone. All the best with the recovery.
