No surprise there's no loss this week as I've been up against a project deadline so eating has been a snatch and grab affair when time has allowed.

Been a bit more active too.

Managed to get out twice on the splitboard and one turbo (evil misery!) session.

No complaints, mostly behaving and on target for 1kg loss for the month.

Slow steady progress so far and feeling much better for it. Aiming to be back under 110kg next week but I suspect the hard yards come soon!
Whoa! Good effort, you're kicking my ass!

Keep up the good work.

No idea to be honest. I've only just got one. I know they've been around a while but the actual numbers of years? :???:

Hells yeah!!! :ugeek:

Almost no exercise due to work AND a 5/5 avalanche risk AND miserable weather meaning everything is not allowed or unappealing.

BUT.....I have been saintly in my eating this week.

Start 144kg
8/01/21 - 144kg
22/01/21 - 148kg
29/01/21 - 147kg

Finally got it moving in the right direction, struggling with foot pain and my head space is pretty dark at the moment, lots going on, I will get there, great work so far everyone.

Good effort on starting to get things turned around.

Maybe it'll help a little too know that it's possible to emerge from the 'dark places' and to get moving again.

Obviously no idea what you've got going on but with all of my (oh so many) injuries / maladies and then the plague etc... I've enjoyed some truly bleak moments/days/months in the last year BUT keep at it, don't let the bastards get you down etc... and you'll turn it around at some point.

115.2kg - 1.1.2021
114.5kg - 8.1.2021
113.2kg - 15.1.2021
111.1kg - 22.01.2021
109.9kg - 29.01.2021

Still slow steady progress in the right direction and feeling much better for it. Aiming to be back under 105kg next month end but it's going to get harder again soon! Reduced carbs and sugar... keeping the buttered toast to once a week and basically moving more and eating less. A bit less stress helps; completely empathise with the comments above about some darker places last year!

Stick at it all - all going in the right direction! :-bd

26/12/2020: 121.7kg

8/1/2021: 116.8kg
15/1/2021: 115.5kg
22/1/2021: 113.6kg
29/1/2021: 113.1kg

Only 0.5kg this week, still a pound. But I am currently backed up and awaiting a mighty deposit, and suffering with a fair bit of Inflammation in my thighs, so I'm expecting to break 113kg soon.

Exercise and diet are going well and pretty consistent with MFP tracking. If anything I think I might need to up my calories as I'm only at 2000 with occasionally up towards 2400 including my exercise (currently around 8-9 hours between cycling (mainly) walking and swimming ( small amount)). I think a base of 2400, plus some for exercise might be better long term, though currently work wise I'm stuck at the kitchen table WFH and not out and about as I should be. I'm 6ft with a large frame so my BMR isn't that low anyway, before you add carrying me about.

Keep it up all 👍

83.1kg (Jan 15th) the power of not scoffing biscuits & chocs!
84.0kg (Jan 29th) sad to see my belly sticking out :o

22/1/2021 73.9
29/1/2021 74.1

I've been a bit less active this week and didn't get in the planned 3 runs, while relaxing too much on snacking. I need to get out for a walk at lunchtimes more often as well but that should be easier from next week.

Guess I'll be joining this party again. Depression did a pretty big number on me at points last year so I've got to find a way of stopping that happening. I was forcing myself to the cinema once a week for relaxation time, but obviously that's been off the cards for some time. Just done dry January as I was drinking way, way too much. Sadly I don't feel any better for it, but at least I got it done.

01/01/21: 72.5kg
08/01/21: 71.3kg
15/01/21: 70.7kg
22/01/21: 70.2kg
29/01/21: 69.1kg

Target: 60kg by 12/06/21. Have said I'll go to the Dolomites riding with a friend (COVID allowing), and I can't really generate the power I used to (hip), so I'm going to need to compensate by being as lean as possible.

I think it's just shy of half a kg a week. Doable, though not easy, especially when I get closer to target.

Well after much prevarication weighed in at 107Kg, so all the weight i shifted I’ve put back on over the latest lockdown/Festive period. On the plus side I’ve cycled more in January than last month and I've increased my FTP to 254 from 239. Back to work Monday, 90Kg goal weight by the end of the year. :-bd

Finally made it too the scales this morning, I've been eating the festive presents
Etc and have restarted ( along with Mrs Ftk) a mainly keto diet as of from
Today, the scales came out at;
122.47 kg.
I've definitely been over snacking, I've worked all through lockdowns
And I've volunteered to stay on on the latest round of furlough, however
My job is very sedentary. My biking mojo was also a bit lost, I'm off this week
And I'm sorting my bikes out so they're rideable again.
I haven't had a drink since the first week in Jan but on new tabs from the
Docs to help with my Arthritis after my last blood tests, he's put me on a 6 month plan.
Anyhow, will update in due course.... :-bd

I heard 2 really interesting intestinal- intesting programmes about diet & health!

BBC Radio: The Spark TimSpector & food myths
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000rlpz

(Further listening more science)
BBC Radio: Frontiers Gut Microbiota
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b03h429g

You are what you eat, So eat well exercise and thrive!

Tim spector, ex food industry researcher, says Calories(sugar/fat etc) content were all oversimplified misleading ways to assess choice of diet to manage weight.
the food industry have knowingly been misleading us for over 50 year.
Essentially The same calories can have a completely different impact on 2 similar individual with similar life style or at different point in times in their life. On sub standard
Gut faura & flora have the most impact in what happens after- energy or weight gain.
In our guts, the more diverse the better. The more processed the food, the more barren our gut becomes. :???:
I'll still postpone the facial transplant (really in possible! Sh!t Mcshake any one? )
So your home made casserole is better for you than the Greggs vegan sausage roll or Tesco ready salad lunch pack.

So eat well exercise and thrive!
I hope you think you know, what I might of exactly meant.

Yeah, I was aware of it. Though to be honest it didn't change much about how I eat.

I try whenever possible to eat as close to "real" foods as I can, but we all love a pizza from time to time.

Gone to the dark side and I ordered some protein powder (bulk powders whey isolate 90 doesn't have sweeteners etc) as I'm finding it hard to get the recommended 1g/lb body weight with a reduced diet, and even I get sick of too much meat and it may help any hunger. At 50 I don't want to be losing muscle mass if I can help it.

Just had my first shaker of it after a turbo session and it was fine. One scoop in water was 27g protein, 111 cals and just tasted like watery milk. I think a scoop with milk will be a nice little after workout carb and protein drink.

I often have greek yogurt for breakfast, so will try it in that. Doubt I'll even notice it. Hopefully help with a bit of recovery too.

I've got good news for you, 1g / lb is largely b*ll*cks. Even more so as you get older.

https://mennohenselmans.com/the-myth-of ... ybuilders/

It obviously makes sense when you consider that it's really only the muscles that you're breaking down / rebuilding that need the protein... and as you're definitely not 100% muscle, your total bodyweight is largely irrelevant.

Even when I was full on with the weights I didn't go higher than 1.5g/kg and I never had any problem putting on muscle. I know natural bodybuilders that do much the same (note, I say natural because if you're on gear then you may very well need additional protein to support your artificial muscle growth).

Thankfully I've been able to get that without powders fairly easily. I do the Greek yoghurt thing (Total / Skyr) as it's generally a good idea for your gut to get that sort of stuff in you anyway. :)

Edit - Oh, and protein power works great in smoothies, but obviously be careful about going OTT with the contents as fruit can have a decent amount of sugar!

I have tuna and chicken breast 😁 and steak, pork and lamb.

Well from what I've read including various endurance forums a higher than the minimum RDA is necessary and aids recovery. I have some 'proper' books to, but cba looking just now as I'm just back from a rather chilling swim 😂

Not saying I'll keep it up, and I'm not specifically aiming for 1g/lb but a couple of scoops a day in a coffee or yoghurt gets me an additional 60g P with little extra fat or carbs and the plain whey stuff seems to agree with my digestion.

Is the guy in the link a carnivore body builder? Seem to remember listening to him on some podcasts. I know a keto podcast I listen to with a BB bias the guy reckons he's fine on less, but can't remember the amounts and I think he's a 'smaller' guy.

I'm not sure to be honest. There's a fairly in depth roundtable discussion on it I could link to too, but it's a bit OTT.

Generally more protein is good... but not to the point where you start having to regularly chug down protein drinks to hit your macros. It's an especially miserable way to live your life if you're a bigger guy (by my calcs that would put you at 250+ grams of protein a day).
