I think the extra rim width would only widen the outer edge of the tyre slightly and probably narrow the tread a bit, maybe lol

As promised, a quick update. I've now had a couple of rides on the 2.6 Rangers and have to say that so far I'm really impressed. Visually they look like they'd only be any good on dry or hardpack but I've tried them in some full on slop and they coped surprisingly well. They feel fast on road, forest road and hard surfaces (at least as quick as the Conti X Kings on my bikepacking bike) and the only area they've come up short so far is in soft snow (not surprisingly they were useless).
For Firestarter, I've not mocked them up to check clearance in my Pinnacle but on Halo Vapour 35 rims (internal width 30mm) they measure 67mm at the widest point. HTH.
