Anyone use an eTrex Touch.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

My mum wants to buy my nephew a gps - he's borrowed my Dakota before when he's visited and seemed to get on with it okay. I started looking and can only find SH Dakotas but have spotted the Etrex Touch. Looks okay on paper but wondered if anyone has tried one?

Ta.

I think mine's an old etrex (the "touch" moniker seems new, probably just to help peeps differentiate models).

I'm not a huge GPS user but it's been fine. Sorry, faint praise 😉

I had to buy one on Tour Divide when I broke my Dakota. It’s OK but I find screen too small and UI/features not as good as Dakota. Having said that as a first gps you’d be happy with it.

Was that a 25 Dave? I can't really see very much difference between that and the 35.

35 - I had no choice at the time. If you want to save a few pennies shout as I never use it but I don't have box/instructions etc...

Dave makes good point about smallish screen size. I got a secondhand Dakota from Rich and it seems a bit better / easier / more useful. Bugger all use as bought at outset of Covid so I'm speculating quite a bit.

The touch has a much bigger screen than the older eTrex Tim. I had an older model and bought a Dakota because of the small screen on the eTrex.

In that case, buy an Oregon and be done.

I have the etrex touch 35 and can't fault it. Feels like a bigger clearer version of the Dakota which I was happy with. Simple no fancy bits gps.

Stu, of course, has first refusal BUT (subject to model, age, condition, blah, blah, blah) I might be interested.
