Heavy weight day to day coat recommendations

Post by Escape Goat »

Hi all.

I've been browsing and browsing online for a nice warm jacket for the winter. Waterproof, insulated and windproof. It's hard to see what they're like on the websites.

Does anyone have a recommendation for non cycling they'd care to share with me? I don't know if outdoor shops are open, but I'm not likely to visit a shop for the rest of the year anyway.

Looking at sport persuit, they appear to have Fjern and also Mamut...

Budget is around the 100-140 ish (wouldn't mind getting something in a sale)

Thanks.

I have a Paramo Alta III, it is out of your price range new, but Paramo have an ebay shop where they sell off stuff they have used as demonstrators, in photo shoots etc

May be worth a look

Bought a Musto Goretex Primaloft parka from Sports Pursuit in January. It's bloody vaguely exciting.

Its a Musto - Mens Paxson BR2.

Montane Extreme jacket? Love mine. Had it over 10 years, brilliant for winter. Not WP but I've never been bothered by that. Got wet while wearing it a few times but not in a cold way.

Love my Fjallraven,
I’ve about 10 different jackets of theirs, and countless pairs of their trousers too..
This is my go to now it’s getting colder.
Warm, down, waterproof and wind proof.
A great bit of kit imho..

The Fjern eVent stuff looks pretty good on SP, there was a shop in Chamonix selling their stuff last year so I had a touchy feel of it. There were some cheap OMM Aether smocks on ebay last week, not sure if they've gone yet. Columbia Outdry were on Amazon for £90 too

I still like a layered approach, swapping mid layers to suit the cold, a decent dwr shell if it's proper wet, Paramo if it's a bit wet

Found the links

Price has gone up a bit on Amazon since, still not bad though
