Does this bike exist?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Following on from my thread yesterday about sub £600 hardtails, things have progressed in an odd direction, so today, I have a new question.

Is there such a thing as a reasonable quality fold-up mountainbike? Not couplers but an an actual folder ... my initial investigations would indicate, anything that does exist is likely to be crap.

Anyone?

Dahon Espresso?
(I'll leave it up to others to pronounce upon its quality...)

We’re all individuals, except me.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

If the spec on a normal bike disappointed at £600 then the spec on those at £800... :o

I could get you a hacksaw blade, couple of hinges and some pop rivets...?
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

A Google search returned this which looks to be what you're after, fox forks and deore group set. Not cheap but not ridiculously expensive either

I see a few of the Montagues on train travels, they're look like a good way to do it. If you can find a decent one S/H the Dahon Lockjaw is a good system but it's an allen key fold, takes a minute longer maybe but still faster than trad couplings.

That Change bike -
+ The only folding frame to achieve ISO 4210 certification
Erm.. 'they all do that sir'. Or at least they should.. Those 20" Dahons pass. Had a Pinnacle sample folding bike developed based on an Oyama design, that passed MTB ISO w/o issues.

Some interesting stuff here folks, thank you.

I am doing my best to put her off a folder but her thinking is that it'll be easier to fit inside her camper. My assurances that simply removing the wheels from a non-folding bike will result in pretty much the same thing may be slowly sinking in.
