Micro USB cable suggestions

Post by mattpage »

A little odd, but hoping someone can help. I'm looking for a micro USB cable that can go from my dynamo charger to Wahoo which is mounted out front.

The clearance from the stem is minimal so a standard cable won't fit and I'm not sure if a 90 degree will either.

Any ideas for a cable that is ultra low clearance from the actual connector?

Do you mean a flat cable or just a really minimalist connector?

Either flexible/flat, or maybe a 90 degree or down drop but would need to fit into a really tight space.

I picked up a flat cable from Amazon a year or two ago but they don’t seem to have it any more. It was similar to this though:

Unfortunately cables don’t last in my house because they either get ‘borrowed’ or destroyed by the kids yanking them out of devices so I can’t give you any real feedback on robustness.

I’ve a couple of these
Mcdodo 90 Degree Micro USB... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HFBV1PX? ... b_ap_share

Good quality and the big usb end is bi- directional
It’s been permanently plugged into my sinewave beacon and garmin battery for 6 months with no issues.
We’re all individuals, except me.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

This looks good. Assuming you run an out-front mount, do you know what clearance you have from stem to USB mini port?

Mine is into a garmin edge battery pack, the port is on the bottom. I’ve just measured the plastic section at 14mm

I've been using something like this, for ages, now...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274219619147

...there are many variants available.

Most of our devices have the plug bit permanently attached, and there are multiple cables around the house, so you can quickly attach a device for charging.
If a cable is yanked, it just disconnects, before any strain is applied.
When you want to connect, you only have to get the cable near the plug, and the magnets pull it into place - no more fiddling to get it in the hole (Ooerr!)
I've even got a cable in the car, making it much easier to connect the phone, in the little space where it sits, during travel

You could look at a Spooly. It’s a magnetic cable that rolls up - I carry one in my pocket.

I have used 90 degree USB magnetic cable the seem to be only available through Aliexpress or Ebay or Lamastore amazon from abroad, they have come in a week or longer customs at Heathrow
is the longest part of it...
I've used these cables for 12 month. I can sent you unused spare one. If you prefer it that way.
They are available with ios/micro usb/c ends
So a bit more variety than belugabob ebay suggestion. They extend to left or right from socket & about 10 - 12mm

I hope you think you know, what I might of exactly meant.

I use magnetic usb cables on my phones and garmin while riding. They have never come off and when you stop they just unplug easily. Amazon and ebay have loads of types. It also mean you only need one cable if your device has a different socket like lightning or mini usb.
