Absolutely. In Reg's book (a very strange one, which can't be obtained in normal bookshops...), the preparation is not for what happens but how to handle what happens.

Precise preperation and planning is well overrated and can lead to mediocre trips ... for adventure to exist there requires a degree of uncertainty and unknown.
