Minimalist typre rear rack n panniers

Post by FLV »

For those time when you simply must take more....

Can anyone reccomend a good value minimalish rear rack. 29er, disc compatible.

I don't need 1kg worth of world tour jobbie.

Some good value bags may be useful, but in the short term I can pop a dirty great dry bag on there.

It's for going on the odd shorter trip with my 4yo boy. So I'd be carrying a 2 to 3 man tent (depending how many of us) along with proper petrol stove and other stuff.

It'd only be used for campsite trips in the shorter term I think, but.. options open.

Dave
I have a spare rack laying about that you can have.
Will dig some details out when I get home.

If you're anywhere near Sheffield, I've a pair of smallish karrimor (from before they became sports direct poor show) paniers you can borrow

Thule Tour (or "Pack N Pedal") racks?

Looks like you can get them cheaper with a bit of shopping around.

Easy on/off most bikes so no need to make a favorite ride look gopping for too long

If the urges takes you there are accessory panels to help mounting more trad-style panniers. As it is easy to lash a ig drybag atop.

Possibly a bit spendy but Thule stuff is usually well made, quality gear (IME). Stu reviewed the "original" version which was produced by a small NZ firm (IIRC, "Freeload"). I think they cashed in and sold the Concept to Thule.
