Forgot to ask Stu... to get the badge, would we need to start from the startpoint or anywhere along the route as long as the full loops completed??

It's an interesting one. I'd ALWAYS choose to do hike-a-bike in the light and early on when I've still got some sort of sense of humour (or right at the end once I'd lost my mind).

Hike-a-bike at night is a nightmare. You could be 6 feet from semi-decent ground and not have a clue.

Great news, I'm well up for a solo run.

Plan A will be DNF the 300 early October, pay Stu another £15 and finish the 200.

Balls to it, I'm in (200 obviously).

I reckon I need to add about 10% more fitness and remove about 10% body weight in the next 8 weeks to make it feasible to get around in sub 36. (Plus find somewhere I'll be able to stay at short notice as I'll be weather watching).

Damn. Here was me hoping it would be a bit north of you.

Like maybe 200 miles north

Are you going to take this as an opportunity to tread new ground?

What with not having to route through the school and all.

Very excited about this announcement! It feels like a really accessible way to dip my toe in the water.
I've hatched a plan to do a 200km local loop this Sunday to see what it feels like. It's my 46th birthday the next day. Perfectly timed mid life crisis I reckon. 😆

South? This is just further mockery of me having bought all the OS maps for Snowdonia just before lockdown...

Unless it takes you from just after midnight on Saturday to just before midnight Sunday you've made your local 200km loop to easy

Remember to include an uphill push where despite the gradient the water seems to sit at six inches deep when it should just run off. The odd section with an 80mph headwind is also a good addition  Heavy rain is not essential but if you can arrange that as well then all the better.

South?! That sounds spot-on. A couple of hours less driving the night before would be ace. :-bd

I did consider trying to add a bit of trudging for authenticity, but decided probably best not to scar myself this early on. It will contain a bit of south downs way though so potential for 80mph headwinds.

This is absolutely none of my business, being just a humble tramp and all, but are you SURE you want to go south?

Cue a photograph (now securely locked in the BBB vaults, in a container full of liquid nitrogen, guarded by a slavering hell-hound) of Someone shimmying along a fallen tree with their bike across a raging torrent....

Imagine in 5 years time and you're looking at your collection of badges. Then realise you missed the green (or black if you made the cut off last year) badge of 2020. Covid special edition. Then imagine 30 years on when you're telling your grandkids after putting away your false teeth. How you gonna explain the missing badge inside your trophy case

Oh man, if it doesn't have one already I'm getting a COVID19 particle image added to mine (assuming I get one).
