Cool / well-ventilated helmet

Post by Charliecres »

I get a hot head. I like a light well-vented helmet. I have a medium-sized, normally shaped bonce. What’s your recommendation?

Not the Bontrager Wavecell helmets, hotter than a hot thing

Singletrack II

I can't stand the heat but this was okay at 38c last year.

Ta for the ideas. Both the Giro and the Endura look good (at opposite ends of the road/MTB spectrum).

Anyone used a Kask Mojito?

I'm currently considering a Mojito for road use. I have a Kask Rex MTB helmet and it's a great fit, well made etc.

The Rex looks good for MTB. I’m really after something minimalist for long days rather than derring-do.

Yep

I used to use an MTB helmet but don't now. The Mojito is much lighter and to be honest, much more comfortable. It also vents really well. I'm on my second, cracked the first one in a crash (someone crashed into me head on)

The only slight annoyance is it doesn't play nicely with all glasses, but I use a pair of oakleys and it works fine. Have been using a Mojito for quite a few years now, ace helmet. Also works well with an exposure helmet mount

I've got a Bell Sixer. It is hot and not what you want. However, in the land of the odd-shaped-of-head it works for me.

Previously a MET Kaos kinda guy though whilst trying lots on recently in my quest to find something workable I also now seem to be OK with some of the newer Giro models, a brand that never seemed to fit.

I have far too many helmets and have tried so many different ones over the years for photoshoots and testing.

Personal favourites are either the MET Manta 3k or Abus Airbreaker. Giro Aeon also pretty good, not sure thats still made now?

All meet what you are after, being cool and also nice and light.
Just be aware that certain brands will fit some heads better than others. I have a Lazer Z1 and it is not a good fit, being far too wide for my head. I only use it in the winter and with the "aero" cover, which makes it very, very hot but perfect for cold weather.

I bought a Smith Rover MIPS when I got my fat bike, as I wanted something with a bit more back of head protection. It's heavy, hot and you have to do it up proper tight to stop it moving around. I wouldn't recommend it.

Prior to that, I always had Specialized helmets, as they fit my bonce, so going to back to one of those next. Although to get a similar S-Works one to the last one I had, is now really quite spendy.
There are theories at the bottom of my jargon.

Thanks all. The Kask Rapido also seems to get good reviews for being light and well-vented. And it’s half the price of a Mojito. Tempted to give that a go.

There's a new Mojito out, literally just released

Might see if I can get a crash replacement for my crashed one (still have it), my current one has had a lot of use. Only downside is no middle vent for central placing of the helmet light
