Powdered Drink Mix

Post by Dave Barter »

When I was a lad (yes I know we're talking a lot of decades) I am sure I used to buy a powder that you added to water and it made a fizzy raspberry drink. This was around about the time of 200AD issue 1 which I've still not forgiven Mum for throwing away.

I'm after something similar for bikepacking to take the edge off chlorine/filtered water. I do not want any of that ridiculously priced energy powder guff. Just some sachets of something to add a bit of flavour.

Any ideas?

As you say they're all ridiculous 'energy' drinks and hyper expensive.

Then again the above one is: US made, amazon bought, apparently posted from S Africa! Where's my morals when I need a drink  .

Wonder what dehydrated ground up fruit would taste like when reconstituted?

I don't know quite what you mean, but it sounds a bit like the stuff you used to get in army rat pack? I'll see if i can get hold of some for you, if not, people often buy the ration packs for stuff and flog the sundries like the drink mix.

Half a High5 tab? I know it falls into your "ridiculous energy drinks category" but you can probably eke them out like junior aspirin doses ;-)

Er, decant into little pots?

Utterly vile one
Blackcurrant Nesquik wasn't nice at all.

"On April 1, 2013, the official Facebook page of Nesquik USA posted a photo on their page depicting a broccoli-flavored ready-to-drink flavour of Nesquik. However, upon closer inspection of the photo, there was a notice in the lower-left corner that it was not an actual Nestlé product. Nesquik USA announced later in the same day that it was an April Fool's joke".

Creamola Foam?
Now available as Krakatoa Foam https://www.scottishretrosweets.com/swe ... mola-foam/

Not really any cheaper than some of the budget sports isotonic drink tablets though.

You've got me going now. Fairly sure we had vanilla, and I'm pretty convinced there was orange for a very short time. I'm trying to bring the taste back to mind now. It must have been a bad as the blackcurrant. I mean, citrus in milk? Urk.

Rumours of pineapple once, but I never saw it.

Now... Cresta... Angel Delight....

It's an option. I definitely remember these things added a little fizz.

some options, though the fizzy aspect is limiting:
- diarrhoea (had to type that out a couple of times before it looked right  ) relief sachets might work
- vitamin c effervescent tablets?
- squirty squash, as mentioned above
- high five or nuun tablets, on offer they're not bad value
- cold infuse fruit tea bags
- crystal light sachets

You could use Dioralyte, pretty much the same as electrolyte drinks but not as expensive, flavours are subtle though. Dioralyte Is just salts to help with the dehydration rather than a cure so it’s no going to bung you up, well worth using when it’s really hot, the other option if it’s for a filter is an additional carbon filter, used to have a bottle with one built in, an additional bonus they can potentially remove some of the dissolved nasties which make it past the element.

Ooo look what I found, filter and carbon in one by MSR

Ah Creamola Foam, happy days! People at school used to bet that you couldn't eat a teaspoon of it, drink some water and keep it all down. Oh, the hilarity... 🤣

I see the Sanza online shop sells Raro which is a powdered juice drink from New Zealand, used to buy it when I lived out there.
