Framebag Zip Repair

Is there a go to "fix this please" place that people have found for replacing framebag zips?

I've two Revelate bags that need zippers.

I've neither the time nor inclination to do this myself, nor learn to do it myself. This is one of those "pay a person to save me time" sort of things.

Alpkit should do it Greg. They have a repair facility and I believe will do kit from other manufacturers.

I realise it may seem a bit cheeky asking to repair another competitive product but worth asking Alpkit in Hathersage. They have a repair dept in house with the advantage it's not a million miles from you.
Stu beat me to it but taking them into the shop is worth a try.

I expect these guys can do it, mate. https://lancashiresportsrepairs.co.uk. Not used them personally and don't know anyone who has had a frame bag repaired by them, but know they've done a good job of replacing zips on friends' waterproofs etc

Aye thought about them Tom - could easily ride over with the kit. Will pop them a mail.

Stu - hadn't thought of Alpkit, will pop them a mail.

I asked AK for my WC framebag Greg. They basically said no (but not cos it's a competitors) cos the cost of repair was uneconomical for them due to the amount of work needed the price would come up to the price of a new bag anyway. They referred me to their 'do it yourself' section as well as 2 independent repair places...

Lemme find the email for you...

[Goes and searches and looks and searches some more, then thinks and looks again... here we go].

Hi Shafiq,

I'm afraid replacing the zip on your bag comes up more expensive than a new bag would. It would actually take more time than making a new bag as the factory would need to fully dismantle your bag, change the zip and then put it all together again. The factory manager has quoted £120 to do this, plus £15 if you wanted us to provide the zip too.

While we'd love to be able to help people keep their kit going as long as possible, the Alpkit factories time has to be focused on production at the end of the day. This means that any time they take from making new product comes in at quite a high price. Most repairs that we do here are done by us in the CS team, but we don't have the skills to do this one, it would have to be factory staff with their expert sewing skills.

We do, however, have a dedicated repair station at our Hathersage shop. If you get in touch with the shop directly they might be able to help you out here. Alternatively, there are several dedicated repairs companies that I can recommend. Lancashire Sports Repairs and Scottish Mountain Gear both do great work.

Short version; LSR are repairing it, will let people know how well it worked out.

First time they've done one - but they're pretty good at other things so I'm confident.
