Show us your SQUARE (please).

Post by redefined_cycles »

Anyoje willing or wanting to share their square in case it provides some motivation or satisfies the curiosity of us all...

Please. If thats ok... Thanks :-bd

If you're sqaures too big then you might need to (obviously if you can be bothered) break it down into a few pics/screenshots...

In case anyone wonders what brought this on, it was Bob saying he went to grab a square off the route on the North-Peaks100... Dunno why put it really puts these into perspective that someone of Bobs caliber was missing summat up there...

Thanks (did I already say that)...

I've just noticed there's a tile missing that I've been through before, maybe pre-strava or the ride didn't record? It must have been before I was collecting tiles. I known where I'll be going soon

Growing the square vertically (north-south) is reasonably straightforward. Horizontally (east-west) incredibly difficult.

Looking at my Cluster, I've a few easy in-fills to grab but I'm also going to aim for a coast-to-coast.

I should really get around to adding some pre-Strava tracks too. Those will fill in a few gaps.

Do you have VeloViewer Tony? You need to sign up for it, then let it know your Strava ID, then it'll pick up all of your Strava details and rides.

Interesting stuff but I can barely remember to press go on my Garmin watch most rides. Does veloviewer only work with Strava?

Glad it’s not just me

I take it these are maps of home areas, what are the blue squares and red lines showing?

Why would somebody be missing a square, because they haven’t ridden in that area?

This bike is like collecting squares, bicycle geekery, possibly a waste of time but admit it you want to give it a go

VeloViewer* uses your Strava data. The whole of the world is divided into little squares (tiles). If you've ridden through a tile then it's shaded in.

The red lines are traces of your rides/runs etc you've uploaded to Strava
In the example above the light red tiles are the ones collected
The blue tiles form part of your Max Cluster**

The thick blue line is the outside of your max square, the largest size square where you have collected all the tiles inside of it.

* https://veloviewer.com

** The max cluster is the largest group of tiles where you have collected the tiles on the 4 sides of the tile.

Tony, a square will only become blue once the adjacent (top bottom left n right but not diagonals) squares have also been ridden through. But if ridden throigh once then will become orange or green or whatever colour you've set it to...

If Strava doesn't know you've ridden through them, then neither does Veloviewer. Just Update on Veloviewer every few rides/days and it'll slowly build up.

FWIW I think the free "preview" of Veloviewer only uploads the last few rides. If you want it to go back through all of your Strava history you need to subscribe.

Folks, you can use one of the options to fade out the routes so the squares are more prominent

Anyway, here's mine:

Recently it's been more about extending the max cluster but I'll have to start grabbing more squares. That one on the North Peak 100 was just because I saw it was close by and knew it wouldn't take long to get. I'd be at 40x40 before it was part of my max square

I'd be interested to see who has a decent square built up around BB Towers.
