How many attempts before you reach for the glitter?

I have decided the non-tubeless g-ones and my non-tubless generic Shimano rims could be persuaded to go tubeless with enough gaffer tape and sealant.

So that's what I've been doing since 9am. Front went up and appears to be staying up, but the back....

Changed the valve cores, the valve outers, redone the tape, extra washing up liquid on rims, silicon spray in tyre beads(!!).

They stayed inflated for a maximum time of 15mins.

Until I remembered.... GLITTER!

So I've raided my daughter's craft box and i now have an inflated rear tyre. :-bd

Currently enjoying my latest Lidl purchase of Crabbies Rhubarb Ginger beer whilst admiring my handiwork.

An exercise of sheer bloody mindedness over good sense.

Not quite the thread content I was anticipating, thought it was an offshoot of the What You Are Listening To Now? thread

My girlfriend took a load of glitter and applied it liberally when we went to Festival No. 6 in 2018. I'm still finding it in my truck, random pockets and on almost every sock I own.

Some tyres suffer from leaking side walls, continental X-kings spring to mind, they take a lot of sealant just to stop them leaking through the walls and spots opened up for several days as they stretched. One way is some extra sealant, give them a good slosh then go for a ride. Another thing I now do is to degrease the inside of the tyre to remove any release agent before fitting, another area worth looking at is the rim, I’ve had a pinned rim leak from the join, it will seal eventually but it might no be apparent from the outside of the wheel.

This is my experience of quite a few tubeless set ups (mainly gravel bikes). It stays up for three weeks. It stays up for three hours, it stays up for three minutes. There is no knowing which it will be.

It's coming out the rim rather than the tyre atm.

Annoying thing is that I've got it to work before on this tyre/wheel.

Short of sealing every join in the rim I think i may need to admit defeat on this one!

Bet I get a puncture now...

What width is the rim and what width of rim tape did you use?

1" wide gaffer tape. Rim is about 19mm. Tape was trimmed in situ using a craft knife run into bottom corners of rim.

It's my tried and tested technique...
