Rode across in March on my last big trip. It was certainly a highlight... even though it was like 9pm and pitch black. I did have this odd sense of dread of it being closed for the last hour before I got there. No reason to really but I guess with at that point on day 2 with 195km in my legs from that day alone I really didn't want to have to go back around the long way.
