Helen was at the Marquee at a gig where Metallica wandered on and did a secret set to a few hundred. She reminds me of that a lot

Lars Ulrich lived locally to me in the US so you’d occasionally see him cruising around in an open top car blaring out his own hits.

Currently this mix I put together: https://www.mixcloud.com/leftfootleashe ... kdown-mix/ Earlier in lockdown I wanted to make something for "when this is all over"... but of course there's not really a definitive point where it's all over, and it certainly isn't yet, for many people. A lot the music I like is quite introspective, so it was nice to do something completely different.

I love the eclectic nature of this thread. It's playing out like a sound clash/battle of the bands, but broader, with everyone chipping in to fight the corner for their genre or sub-genre, good-natured of course.

That reflects my musical taste really. I hate it when people ask me what sort of music I'm "into", because the honest answer is "a bit of everything" which is what people say when they don't really care about music, but I do, just about several small, seemingly unconnected niches. If I had to pick my top ten favourite albums, I don't think any of them would be considered remotely of the same genre. You can probably tell this from that mix, and the few others I've done.

If you have to ask, I like grunge rock (Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr), alt. country (Bright Eyes, Megafaun, The Felice Brothers, Josh Ritter), modern classical (Olafur Arnalds, Erland Cooper), latin jazz (The Cat Empire), electro/psych pop (MGMT, Vampire Weekend), folk (Bob Dylan, The Tallest Man on Earth, Bon Iver) and most things in between.

There are some great mash-ups out there.

I think my favourite is this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1cUIXVWaV8
Now into a whole load of metal mashups. Led Zep and Iron Maiden is the sort of thing any house DJ would appreciate.

Different genre mashup but I think this is brilliant - https://youtu.be/fveHNHXlHL0

Completely un-controversial for me James!

Disco intro via Legends Warrington, 1991 - late 80s hip hop and funk for the first hour or 2, then house music that was Sister Sledge, Italian house, FPI Project and Stirling Void sort of level. Down-tempo rave kind of crowd, the atmosphere was so good. Loved that place. Now I'm listening to - https://youtu.be/8r938WD10sA

Speaking of Peel, I came across this list the other day - YouTube links to at least a couple of hundred Peel sessions. Kiss your afternoon goodbye from me

On the way into work it was pavement ( the band, I used M40,25,11 for transit) actually I did the 25&11 in silence, on the way home I listened to the WHO, loudly. John and Keith were arguably one of the best ‘rhythm’ sections in the history of music, the only thing I hold against my ex was we split just before John Entwhistle died and I didn’t get to see the OX, pino is Ok at bass  but John and moonie....I’ll listen to ginger baker and jack but the were more ego than co-conspirators.

Good stuff, your call Steve. LP now on Reg's t/table as we speak/type - "The Who Sell Out". 1967, MONO, but sadly NOT an early one with the poster  . Best LP they did. "Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy" was the first LP I ever bought!
