So you want bottle cage bosses eh?

Post by whitestone »

There's a new Cotic Solaris in town.

Quote:
There are some new bottle boss locations, with the downtube now lined with bosses at 64mm bottle cage centres. These give you the flexibility to run two bottles (as per the previous bike), or a bottle and an Anything Cage style luggage system. Or a tool keg, or anything else you can bolt to bottle bosses. As ever, they also double up for the neat and tidy p-clipped dropper routing.
They aren't kidding!

Mind you it could do with some on the underside of the downtube as well

and... and... they've not got hidden/internal cable routing. Very clever and tempting

My fatbike has 8 tripple cage mounts.
Front and rear rack mounts.
Semi integrated cable routing on the frame and both fork legs have bosses for brake and dyno cable.

Looks like it has acne when unloaded.

Yet, I love it.

Like you Bob, I was also thinking why haven't they got some under the downtube?

I know there aren't any on the seat tube so you can run a long post/dropper etc, but it's such a good location to run a second bottle cage. That way you can have a half frame bag across the top. Maybe this lends itself to a half frame back across the back or maybe a triangular one to leave a space for two bottles on the inside of the downtube

Great - could also fit a Shimano side-swing FD.

I weighed all the bottle and rack bolts on the Ice Cream Truck when I got it and it came to nearly 200g's.... I replaced most of them with alloy bolts which as you can imagine made a massive difference on a 17kg fat bike

I'm currently working out what I need to sell to afford one of these. Anyone interested in a Kona Taro frame, some 650b gradventourer wheels, and a crash-damage-repaired crabon 29er frame?

I think the solaris is lovely and gets many things right (including external cable routing), but i'm not that keen on the stud work on that...

Landslide, what size is the Taro?

Silicone tidds...
or just a little round bit of tape...

At Bold HQ I always get strange looks from the folks running the business with bits of tape on the blank bosses of my boutique bike.

It's got a -2° slackset fitted.

Look at the foot of the seat tube and there's an exit hole for a stealth dropper. I don't think any version of the Solaris has had mounts on the seat post.

Partial frame bag across the back of the triangle works on my road bike. The amount of bosses on that frame may enable two bottles to be carried under such a bag

I love my Solaris. It's the best riding hardtail mountain bike I've ever had, and I've owned my fair share over the years. I've just fitted some loop bars to mine & I've go to say that I'm really please with how they feel.

I'm not sure about all the bottle bosses on the new one, I don't think you actually NEED that many, but it wouldn't put me off it.

You need a Marin if you want to take bosses seriously

Good point about the stealth dropper
