Retro 1x bodgery

Post by restlessshawn »

Had a bit of a gearing revamp on the Inbred mullet

Because -
my front rings (old 5 bolt compact) where pretty worn
the front mech has always been a mud magnet
I just like the simplicity of 1x on my other bike
and I was probably a bit bored and like to tinker

Middleburn direct mount 32 NW (they call them TT) ring
SRAM 9 speed 11-34 cassette that was almost new in my spares, remove the 15&17 and add a 16
a 42 tooth expander I had kicking about
New 10 speed chain
Dura ace bar end on SJS cycles mount
Sunrace mech extender
Shorter cage SLX mech

Amazingly it actually seems to work perfectly, long live 9 speed :ugeek:

:-bd
Wolf tooth do TT rings that fit a Compact 94BCD spider although they aren't much cheaper than middleburns own but they go down to 26 if you need more of a granny gear. I use a 9 speed sunrace cassette which goes up to 40 and I never need for any more really.

Have a wolf tooth ring on my cx and it was even more than the Middleburn!

Also run an 11-40 sunrace on that and it works fine just made this 11-42 out of bits

I do have an 11-46 9 speed cassette but the mech did not have the range to make it work

Nice job I say! Given me a tip/idea for some 9 speed bits I have and may still use. I liked your bike with drop bars, but the new bars look good :-bd
