Painting an Aluminium Frame

Post by Chew »

Some paint has flaked away on my winter road bike.
Aware that the road salt will just eat the aluminium come winter.

Any special paint or preparation needed to protect it from the elements?

(Doesn’t need to be pretty, it’s generally ridden to the pub in winter and sits out in the rain)

I have a pot of clear nail varnish for small chips in paintwork .

The pink is reserved for me

pretty much the same here, although one old kona I had came with a little pot of touch up paint from new...

Now I just raid my wife or daughter's (2 different people - I'm in Sheffield, not Royston Vasey!) nail polish collections for the closest colour and then give it a quick spray of clear laquer over the top once it's dry.

If you're just touching it up then a little pot of enamel (model stuff) will do the job. Worth applying a few coats though ... let it dry between coats.
