Nice little vid from Cameron McNeish

Post by pistonbroke »

Well it seems Bikepacking has reached the radar of a chap who has produced many hours of tv over the years, mainly hillwalking in Scotland. Doesn't seem to have aged much in the decades he's been on the telly. More product placement from Apidura but generally sound advice for novices.

Yeah - I often see him out and about as he lives just down the road. We're heading off for a pint once this virus fannies off.

Have seen him with bike and bikepacking kit/bags on some of his travelogue programmes even if he was just riding for the shots along the road. Also a bit of packrafting now and again.

As mentioned in that video, he has an Ebike now too.

TBF he is getting on a bit and has dodgy knees so at least he has an excuse.

I enjoyed that. It was nice to see someone explain things in a straightforward way and not once did he say he was fair chuffed or did he prefix every verb with 'super' ... very refreshing but yes, I reckon he could easily knock off another few pounds from that lot

He is a nice chap isn't he  . I'll bet he's a fund of stories over that pint Colin.

When you see him give him a viewing of a BBB 8g stove and custom poles though  .

I like the way he minimises water, but yes offsetting it with 500ml of meths is curious.
And not storing anything in his pot is a shame. Bag/tent in rear (lighter) pack but mattress up (heavier) front is a bit of a mixture too. More 'light' than 'ultralight'.

But hey, I now feel super-churlish for even slightly heckling such a mega-hero  . Send him a WRT invitation....

I like Cameron and I've seen his programs on BBC Scotland. I'd question the wisdom of relying on just the seat pack to keep the sleeping bag dry* and stuffing the tent in after it also assumes the tent is dry when it goes in?

* Up until last May I'd have said this was ok as the two previous times I'd been to Scotland it was 25 deg and sunny all the time.... then I got to see the 'real' Scotland
