Stupid ideas you can't shake.

Do you ever get an idea in your head to do something but a week or two later it's past and you're thinking about something else instead?

Do you ever get those that simply refuse to go away? They might not be right at the top of your thinking pile but a little nudge has them skipping to the top and no matter what, you just can't get rid of the idea completely?

Mine's the Colorado 14er's route. Never visited Colorado but I reckon I'd like it.

I've had the joy of dong a few 14's a while back. It's a good place to spend time. The peaks are pretty raw and it's an interesting place.

Would I travel to the US at the moment... maybe. Co. is one of the few places I probably would.

It'd be next year at the earliest now Greg. I think it probably is the fact that taking a bike up and over some of them sounds reasonably stupid, that also makes it sound appealing.

I've just the standard take my savings and bike and don't stop until I'm either too skint or too old. Simplicity.

Far from stupid, just big or far from normal stuff. Always a very good thing to do.

I love stupid ideas.

A recent non bike one that I failed at shaking for two weeks before caving in was to shave half of my hair. Just the right side. Toe to tip. Catestrophically unaesthetic but gives me such a giggle whenever I catch my asymmetric shadow.

I know they have some silly people's names over in the States but calling a mountain "Mount Massive" shows a distinct lack of imagination.

I’m trying to get my head around converting 3 bikes in to two

Voodoo D-Jab Ti HT 26” (Sliding rear dropouts mean 29” slicks may squeeze in)
Kinesis Pro 6 cross
Salsa Fargo 29”

I want to get rid of the pro 6 frame, and with the bits of the 3 bikes make an off-road bike-packer and a road bike-packer

I want to do it for the least amount possible. So that would mean Fargo for road and voodoo off-road, but I love my Fargo as is but it’d cost me too much to turn my voodoo in to a road tourer (wheels and new fork).

Either way, prepare to see 2 fugly bikes sometime over the next few months

A lot of them are trails through talus. Bike would be .. interesting. Some of the lower sections would be a hoot to ride. Mt. Massive is a lovely top - ridge is excellent.

EDIT: spot of inspiration: https://eu.blackdiamondequipment.com/en ... -nolans-14 There is a video with that interview somewhere.

Not bike related, but running. I was planning on doing a solo bob Graham next weekend but obviously Corona virus has put such things on hold.

I keep seeing signs for the Peak District boundary wall when I'm out with the kids, so though I'd look at it yesterday. Turns out it's a 190mile monster, and some people did it in 105 hours. This is sufficiently close to 100 to make me think that being the first to get it under 100 hours would be an excellent thing to do... https://www.grough.co.uk/magazine/2019/ ... t-boundary

Not come across that Paul - interesting route. Quite runable! Paddy currently on hold for me. But such is the way of things. Wales will still be there.

I had thoughts of run/walking up the Pennine Way from Edale up to Hebden, but that puts things into perspective.
Plus my enthusiasm for running has dropped to zero over the past few months....

Certainly looks interesting Greg, and goes within about 2km of my house so could run from the door...

The problem/excellent thing about this idea is that if I do end up running it, then I'm pretty much out of excuses for not running the spine challenger which I got a place for in 2021 but was too skint to take earlier this year.

Chew, it's way beyond anything I've ever run before but that's kind of the point. I keep trying challenges and succeeding (which is great) but keep wanting to find something to really test myself without taking stupid risks such as seem to be involved with traffic etc. on a fast LEJOG or similar.

Thanks for that Greg. I think the bike route takes in around half of them.

You don't want to count the number of Ben Mor's in Scotland then

For me it's the Transcontinental. I just keep watching or reading things about it and get excited every time. I'm finding it difficult to shake off that feeling.

I had been hoping to use LEJOG1400 this summer as a tester for myself to see how I was really dealing with multi-day event under a strict time pressure. I feel like my mental game is far better now I have worked through some of my head problems and want to test myself a bit. If it did go well, the plan was to think about the TCR for 2021. LEJOG1400 hasn't been cancelled yet but being the end of July I don't really see it happening.

Since finding out that I'm actually guaranteed a place on London-Edinburgh-London in 2021 (due to being a full AudaxUK member during September 2019) I have thought about doing that now as my big challenge next year and maybe thinking about TCR for 2022.

Your stupid is alot bigger/braver than my stupid Stu... Ever since i read somewhere recently your comment about the TCW being rideable via lanes back to the start and your aseessment of the PBW. The TCW has suddenly become v appealing to me even though its probably more than i could chew (obviously post Covid)...

I took my bike to the top of the GB 3 peaks for a similar reason. I became obsessed with hatred of the van based challenge and wanted to show them how to do it properly. Clearly my ride made a huge difference.....not.

Oh cool! I was thinking I was the only one.

Debating a rattling off road route between or a road bike and running the peaks. Running down steep hills is my current favourite thing so that is ahead.

AZAB or OSTAR.
Thirty years since I sold my yacht and haven't set foot on one since but feel I would happily go tomorrow if the opportunity came up.
Other than that a night ride to High Willhayes see the solstice sun rise. I checked the long range weather forecast. It's due to rain.

Mine is a very simple idea I cant shake, I have a spare 29er rear wheel with a acr45 rim and i keep debating getting hold of a 29 plus front wheel with same or wider rim to try on the ramin plus bike, 29 2.4 rear and 29 3.0 front but it's an expensive test if it doesn't work

I'm really not sure it's brave Shaf. It tends to be a lack of money or motivation that stops me doing something but rarely the thought of things going wrong ... I usually look at something and think, 'what's the worst that can happen?'. Death is the likely answer and that holds little fear really.

Changing most of my bikes to SS seemed stupid but in the event has worked well....

Otherwise mostly route related - taking the fatbike from Oldeshoremore to Cape Wrath up the coastline. I know it will be a total mission but the thought of the scenery and isolation is un-shakeable.

Full Lairig Ghru traverse

South west coast of Lewis linking Hushinish to Carnish (ish) via Loch Reasort

I get totally obsessed by things for a few weeks, then they generally pass. This one though, still gestating... Get the train to Hunstanton, then cycle to Eastbourne, via The Peddar's Way, Icknield Way Trail, The Ridgeway, King Alfred's Way and The South Downs Way.
