Vbrake blocks

Post by ootini »

Hi there.

I'm not familiar with vbrakes, are the brake blocks pretty much universal? Or are they brand / model specific?

Thanks

You can usually run any pad in any brake. Main difference was always whether you swapped the whole thing, shoe, pad, fittings and all or you had the cartridge type. Shimano XT/XTR had the cartridge type where you just slide out the rubber pad part and left the shoe in place.
I’d recommend that type. You can get bags of pads on eBay for next to nothing.
I still use v’s on my CX bike, they work really well in the dry and acceptably well in the wet. They go through rims at quite a rate though.
Also the pads wear pretty quickly. When I lived in the Lakes and had V’s on an MTB I always carried spares and often ended swapping out pads mid ride.
If you are going through hell, keep going.

Cheers Stu.

I was looking at the Clarkes triple compound blocks. God knows if they're good or not, but the reviews would suggest they're not rubbish.
