Headset biting?

Post by Mike »

Anyone know why my headset is tightening itself up over the day. Rode the spearfish today and the headset has now tightened itself up so the steering is now stiff. Its as if the bolt is tightening as the bars move??

The bolt on the head cap is only to set the tension, the stem bolts actually hold it it place, it’s possible that the stem has slipped causing excessive preload. Slacken off the stem bolts and top bolts, put just enough tension on the top cap bolt to remove any play THEN tighten the stem bolts to lock it in place.
The other possibility is knackered bearings.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

Are there enough spacers to hold the top cap clear of the fork steerer? Is it a STNut in there, or a reusable bung of some sort?
