I'm a tart

Post by ssnowman »

A bike tart that is.

I assume, like more than a few on here, I'm pretty good at buying bikes, but very poor at selling them.

I was a bit shocked recently to find that I'm back up to 8. So I listed out what I have (and what I've sold) and realised that every bike I've ever bought has been from a different manufacturer.

Specialized
Dawes
Cannondale
Kona
Commencal
Felt
Rose
Brompton
Calibre
Canyon
Sonder

That's my list, I'm sure I'm not alone and that I will be well beaten by others on here!

hmmm

Claud Butler
Saracen
Handsome Dog
GT
On One x 2 (still got 1)
Kona x2
Evil
Tifosi (frame still in the loft where it has been since I fell off it and it hurt)
Voodoo
Mercian (still got it)
Genesis
Ritchey (still got it)

Considering that spans from about 1988 to now I think that's pretty moderate, I need to spend more :-bd
Can't see me ever owning a Trek or a Specialized

In the order in which they come to mind....

Peugeot
Diamond Back
Saracen x2 (90s)
GT
Trek x2
Surly x2
Cube
Salsa
Giant
Kona
Specialized
Orbea
Whyte
Sonder
Holdsworth (pre Planet X - 27" wheels)
Ridgeback
Boardman
Brompton
Pinarello
De Rosa
Cannondale
Genesis x2
Argos TT (handbuilt in Bristol.. NOT from the Book of Dreams)
Planet X

I think that's all of them. Some of them I still have, several have been sold; five I think failed in some way and were scrapped. None suffered real crash damage (at least not to the frameset). I don't begrudge a penny spent on any of them! There are a couple I wish I hadn't sold though.

Rock Lobster

EDIT: Just realised that 17 from 27 were rigid, 16 were steel, only one was full suspension and I've never owned a Ti or carbon bike .... not that it matters.

going from about 1990 as most of stuff I had as a kid were BSO’s

in order of purchase -* means still own

Raleigh Winner
Muddy Fox Courier Comp
Specialized Hardrock
Specialized Enduro
Genesis IO
On-One Pompino*
On-One Inbred 26”
Cannondale CX*
Genesis High Latitude*
Brompton
On-One Inbred 29”*
Surly Krampus*

12 bikes, 8 brands, quite a mundane list compared to others but I have enjoyed them all bar the brompton as was only used occasionally for work

recently cut down from 7 to 5, currently have 4 different brands, 3 getting regular use (cx on the turbo, inbred and genesis for general usage) Pompino needs brakes fitting and Krampus was bought in February as a 2nd hand rolling chassis and needs a few bits to build up.
