If you're struggling to get to the shops for your usual copy of Razzle, fear not as issue 3 of Off Road magazine can be bought on-line. There's a lovely picture ont' front. https://shop.cyclist.co.uk/products/cop ... ne-issue-1

It's alright Dave. There's a bit of beareded mug dangling and posh coffee but but nice articles and interesting places.

Thanks for the online link. (Surely they're roadies on front cover!)

I managed to get issue one, but couldn't find issue two anywhere.

I thought the first issue was just ok, but I'm interested to see how it's getting along.

surely most gravel riders are roadies who can't quite bring themselves to being seen on a mountain bike?

I’ve enjoyed my copies, sadly now in the recycling.

The photography tends to be off a high quality and some of the trips are to grand places. Bike testing is of the upper range, as is some of the Gucci kit, but the articles are well worth reading.

If nothing else, it will keep you motivated to ride :-bd

I used to subscribe to the original road based magazine for years until mini voodoo came along and always thought it was one of the better magazines out there

A copy arrived this morning. A very brief flick through reveals lots of nice pictures of places you'd like to go. However, it would seem that the 'adventure' element has now taken something of a back seat. I didn't see much in the way of luggage, nights outside, sh1tting in the woods etc. I'm not even sure there's any mug dangling going on.

The glossier end of the bike industry does seem to be pivoting towards gravel bikes and gravel racing - are there any mountain bikes in the mag or is it all drop bars?

When issue 1 appeared I commented that it followed the aspirations of its sister publication Cyclist. The latest issue of that magazine has a "100 best biking products" the first fifteen or so are bikes and the cheapest is a shade under £4000 - for the frameset  One is worryingly priced "£POA".

Insert smug phrase here - "more money than sense", etc.

Some very nice looking pedals in there, but at £850

I had to check twice, initially I thought they were £85!

Had another flick through while having a brew. I notice a nice big piece about the Grit Fest but I also noticed in the same piece, lots of pictures of people pushing up hills - could this be an indication that most gravel bikes aren't actually geared for the real world?

Last year one of the local bike shops had a demo day for the club. I took out a Trek something or other gravel bike. It was standard Shimano 105 groupset though with a "super wide" 11-32 cassette "for the hills"!

Did you spot the wheels? Over 3K for a pair  A bit of aspiration never hurt anyone but that's just stupid.

Is that a genuine photo on the cover or has there been some Photoshop skulduggery? :geek:

I know I said we'd wait for Dave but really, we can't wait forever can we ... anyway, while the ultrasonic cleaner was doing ultrasonic cleaning, I had a good look through my purchase and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. Now, don't get me wrong, there's some good indepth travel articles but the publication as a whole feels like it's morphed into a 'lifestyle' magazine and the promise held within the first 2 issues has simply vanished. If you're the kind of person who believes that £8,000 is a reasonable price to pay for a bicycle and (importantly) buying it will somehow lead you down the path of adventure, then (a) have a word with yourself because you could be a tw@t and (b) this is probably the magazine for you.

It's a shame, I really thought it could develop into something that covered the adventure cycling world as a whole but if this issue is anything to go by, it's missed the mark by some margin. Perhaps this issue is a one-off, who knows.
