Thinking about this video, it also reminded me to remember not to venture into the highlands without proper waterproofs. I've done so in the past with lightweight waterproofs and regretted not carrying proper kit.

I enjoyed that. He's got some determination to keep going in weather like that.

It is amazing what pieces of kit people manage to loose. If you read enough issues of the Cordillera you discover people seem to be able to loose just about anything, waterproofs are a favourite, perhaps because the get loosely strapped to the outside of luggage if you are putting them on/taking off regularly.

I'm extra careful to try not to loose kit as I don't usually take stuff I won't need, don't want to have to replace it and also don't want to litter the countryside with lost kit. After every stop when out riding or walking as I move off I get a couple of metres away and have a quick look back to see if I've left anything behind. I never have stuff strapped on the outside of my luggage unless I can see it when riding, so handlebars/front bag is ok but on top of the seatpack isn't.

After days and days of fatigue and mixed with a bit of sleep deprivation it’s not so amazing. I suspect most stuff is lost in diners or resupplies. Dropped under tables, left on a window sill while you ram in a burrito. I waved goodbye to some arm warmers and have absolutely not a clue where or even the exact day.

Are you sure you didn't just put them in the bin alongside your tent?
