Lockdown lust

Post by ssnowman »

Bike lust that is!

I assume I'm not the only one spending many hours online looking at routes, blogs, videos and bike sites.

I'm currently lusting after this https://surlybikes.com/bikes/ice_cream_truck, loving the steel frame, colour and tyres.

Not that I need another fatbike, or any bike for that matter, but if the Easter bunny* turned up with a couple of grand or so and said I had to spend it on a new bike, it would be this for me.

I do remember the feeling but I really can't remember the last time I lusted after a bike. I've looked and said things like "that's nice" but all without any desire to make a purchase. Maybe I've simply become a liitle more jaded over the years and accept that a new bike won't improve the quality of my life or the experiences I have - dunno :???:

They are very good. I recently went through an exercise looking at other fatbikes with a view to splashing out. I the end I came back to an Ice Cream Truck..... A couple of useful updates on my first gen one (threaded BB and bent seat tube) but not enough to part with mine, as we've been through a lot together....

I remember the times when I used to think thats daft... They're ace (but after 2 years and the covid now) and I've finally got past that stage in my life. Sold it (Canyon ultimate carbon cf sl) and going back to the steel bike. Theres somethig about a heavy(er) steel bike that a carbon/lightweight road bike just can't capture (I think).

I did briefly lust after the Salsa Spearfish that Mikes probably bought already but it didn't last very long!

I'd really like a singlespeed gravel bike, steel frame, carbon fork, 650b with room for say 2.1 tyres and with discs.

There's only 3 things stopping me,

1) I don't know of any that meet that spec*

2) I have no budget for another bike

3) There's no room in the shed

*before you all suggest some that fit my requirements see 2 and 3 above

I believe there's an auction for one going on as we speak on here (albeit on hold) and its in Ti. The welds are being repaired (as we speak... kind of) and will be invisible of where its been repaired. Being repaired by a local (well, wherever Alasdair lives) too by a bloke thats spoken highly of :-bd

Plus by bidding/buying it you'll be left with a warm glow inside.

Its Ti... or did I already say that. There's only one of that specific one about

I've got a Legacy H6 (05)... They're lovely (except the brakes binding issues but I think I've finally got to the bottom of that!)

I'd like a ti gravel bike , I've never had a drop bar bike, ive had a go but dont feel comfy in that position, I already have a full suspension, a hardtail and a ti bike packer with carbon forks , I dont have the money for another bike and I dont think there is enough gravel in the uk but still I like the look of them, perhaps to go to the shops on ? :-bd

Plenty of gravel in the uk...maybe just not near you. I have a 300 mile loop planned for October atleast 85% * gravel from my front door.
