My Bro-in-law was looking at getting bevy bag and tarp or hooped tarp, and I came across this at less than half price (with SAVE15 code).

Ordered and will see how it shapes up when it arrives. Looks to have some decent venting, 1.2Kg and under £95 - should get him on his way I reckon.

Anyone found a Gore Shakedry jacket for any cheapness? Cheapest I can find is about £230 for a R7 (running version with hood). Want a running version so it is backpack friendly and fits over a small hydration pack.

Hi Steve,

Size small available here for £187. Not sure if it is the right size tho?

https://www.rutlandcycling.com/clothing ... PMQAvD_BwE

And here in more sizes-but probably higher postage cost as think they are based abroad?

I'd never even thought of having a version that goes over a hydration pack... genius!

Cheers Mark, I need a medium, the only size neither of those places don’t have. Will keep an eye out though - thanks for that!!

Rich - fitting over the top means easy on and off - no getting off the bike to put waterproofs on!

I'm sure you're all on the mailing list anyway, but if not...

If you're in range of Bristol Alpkit, here's a couple of codes to use in their new store.

Columbia Outdry question.....
I can get an 'ExBlitz' model in my size in a decent colour for £66, but unsure about model differences. Are the different models basically different linings and pocket/hood details? This one has a mesh liner on the body and nothing on the sleeves I think, presumably making it lighter and less bulky, but less comfortable/wicking??

There seems to be lots of different models and names but I think you're right in that the material is largely the same (excluding a 'stretchy' version they did a while ago) and just the details change.

I have two ( neither is that one ) and the difference asems to be
1. Weight the lighter one is noticeably thinner
2. Size both are small one is baggy one is tight. It's hard to believe they are the same size so size seems to vary between models
3.neither has a liner the mesh liner is simply the pockets
4. One has pit zips the other does not

Material is basically the same and both are 100% waterproof. The thicker one is too warm for me until winter YMMV
The thinner one too warm for summer

Personally if it fits and it's a good price and you can live without pi zips (makes me think it's the lightweight model but not certain )then get it
The lightweight one for me would be fine for winter with thicker things underneath ( but I bought it second )

For reference I've always translated it as either, 'you make me vomit' or 'your mileage may vary'... not seem to fit this current paragraph/description

IMO I have four different materials across the jackets I have.

1) Standard with pit zips is marginally the heaviest unlined version.
2) I got one that has a little stretch and a slightly fleecy / cotton like internal surface (all the others are very similar on inner face). Too warm unless it's proper chilly. Heaviest fabric and don't think still made or sold, though there might be old stock kicking about.
3) A lighterweight fabric on one that was, at the time, supposedly their lightweight version. No pit zips.
4) Latest one I got seems thinner and lighter fabric than all others. Model was marketed for running etc. Can't recall if it has a vent across the shoulders.

I'd be stumped to tell you the different models etc and it's a common criticism of the Outdrys that you can't tell one from another, particularly at point of sale. For that price though I would just buy and you are unlikely to lose much if it turns out to not be for you and then sell it on. The supply of really cheap ones that enabled me to buy four (over a year or two) for nearly the cost of one traditional hardshell seems to be nearly gone. Great cags tho'.
