For those in households where someone is infected... Me and my partner had a discussion about whether if one of us gets it (almost inevitable for her: she works in a hospital) we should isolate from each other - decided there's no point trying. But... mentioned this to a consultant anaesthetist friend, who introduced me to the concept of "viral load." Basically, this is why health workers in hospitals in, e.g. Italy, are dying even though they were young and healthy: repeated re-exposure to the virus means your body can't fight it off any more. Then you die (well, in the worst case).

Summary: if your partner/kids are ill, try to isolate as much as possible. Separate crockery, beds, etc. Rubbish, but it's possible.

Re. reinfection, my basic understanding is after recovery you have at least some immunity to the virus, as long as it doesn't mutate. I saw an article the other day showing a diagram of the mutations it's already undergone, with two main strains and many closer "subtstrains" - but can't vouch for its accuracy, it being on the internet and all.

My mum, who turns 70 next year, and lives on her own 2 hours away, rang me yesterday to tell me she thinks she's had it  Hasn't even mentioned it before! She said she's lost all sense of taste, and felt a bit under the weather, but still able to do things around the house, and feels like she's getting over it now. She's generally very healthy and active so I'm hopeful she's fighting/fought it off and then I can stop worrying about her.

Come on Eileen was a popular song in the 1980s from Dexy's Midnight Runners.
