Arkose max tyre clearance?

Post by FLV »

Hi arkose owners, i think theres a few.

Im looking at geetting shut of my road bike so looking at 2 sets of wheels for the arkose i have.

1 set with some fast 32 or 35mm slicks and a second with the biggest tyre i can cram in.
I currently have 700x45 that it came with and successfully ran mudgaurds for the winter.

Whats the biggest tyre youve squeezed in?
700 or 650b

Ta.

The X model has 650 x 47s. Would you want anything bigger than a 45?

I have 2" in 650b flavour but I recall James saying something about clearance altering with different model years. Mine's pretty old.

Depends on the year. Mine is a 2018 and officially fits a 700x45 or 650x2” with mudguards. That said If you don’t care about official standards for mud clearance people have gone bigger - I’ve seen a video of a 29x2” in the front though I’m guessing it was on narrow rims and there wasn’t much clearance.

Edit: 650x2.1 would have opened up so many more options but I’ve only run mine with 700c rims I’m not really complaining

I recently bought a 2019 Arkose X in a sale. It’s got 47mm Byways on 650B wheels with plenty of clearance. The rims are quite wide too so that bumps up the actual tyre width. I reckon you’d get 50mm tyres in no problem with good mud clearance, 2.1” (53mm) probably OK too.
