Anyone got any suggestions must include event insurance for cycling Italy Divide , Veneto etc and a skiing holiday bike insurance included would be good to!

I've got Insure & Go's silver annual policy with the winter sports add-on. Seems to cover everything except DH racing. Cost about £40 iirc.

Look at the small print for Insure & Go

Mountain biking is included, as well as general cycling.
Cycle Touring is excluded

May end up not being insured on a bikepacking trip

I don't bother. Ever. With any insurance. Unless it's a legal requirement (and even then only if I'm likely to get caught if I ignore said requirement).

The way I look at it is that the insurers make money. Which means that they get more in than they pay out.

So this is true of the average money in/out ratio of the average individual.

Statistically I'm unlikely to have an incident and so statistically I'm highly likely to be one of the ones paying in without taking out.

So throwing money away for zero gain.

Obviously this approach can come unstuck at any given time BUT unless it's something really serious I'll likely still have saved money in the long-run by not paying all the premiums over decades in every insurable area of life.

Italy Divide could be construed as a race if you head off on mass start. Dogtag are the best option if this is the case as they explicitly allow it.

Well the gain is that you get thousands and millions of pounds of treatment if required should you crash and need treatment/rescue repatriation.
Its your risk so your choice but no way I am going abroad without inurance as a mate of mine incurred [medical] costs of over £1 million - that was a lot of money in 1989 !

you are in for a massive surprise when you dscover how much it costs to pay for private health care - look at the cost of something simple like an xray never mind the rest of the treatment if its broken - and dont forget you have to get to hospital in the first place.
Secondly you are gambling that you wont have to pay out [ hundred of ] thousands in order to save about £30

I would rather know i wont die than try to save £30

I live in France and recently have been not only having MASSIVE amounts of medical care due to double herniated discs but also paying for it all cash due to an admin annoyance (thanks brexit ) and it's been a massive surprise how affordable it all is.

60€ for an MRI last month for example.

The private sector isn't the same in France/Italy due to it not being a binary private/state situation in the first place.

It's a mixed system in both and so (as most of my rides are in those two countries) I feel quite happy 'risking it'.

And each and every year. For 30-40 years of riding. Flight insurance. Luggage insurance. Cancellation insurance. Bike insurance. And whatever other insurances cautious folk might spend their hard earned cash on.

But each to their own etc...

From what I’m seeing, it looks like the multi trip policies are for people who go on beach holidays and city breaks.

If you’re looking for something more specialist, it’s better to look at single policies just for that trip.

I am 100% sure the helicopter medical evac prevented my mates death at that point so insurance did save his life/stop him dying.
