Tim, what manner of man are you that can summon fire without flint or tinder? No wonder you have all those stoves.
Thank you Reg. I was starting to wonder if I was the only one.

* With the exception of BDS' BAM post last weekend. Really. Steve. Nuts.
Lol... Glad I could be of service and indeed I've learnt alot over these past few days. Things that I thought I knew(BearbonesNorm... not 3rd rock from Sun or whatever that comedy sketch used to be called) but didn't and things that I thought were too far fetched but weren't (Lune Ranger)...

My vice (some might disagree) was Tupac Shakur btw and we all know what might have come with that :o

Don't feel left out, while this lot were raving, I was headbanging too! Didn't get into the electronic (and chemical) side of things till much later in life. Went to the Monsters of Rock at Donington in '92, seen AC/DC and Iron Maiden multiple times, etc, etc.

Howdya think I feel, my vices are minimalist avant-garde classical, alt.country and the latest batch of female singer/songwriters...

Anybody else in to CRASS BITD?

I've got a Crass album ... cant remember the name, but it was sold wrapped in paper rather than a conventional record sleeve. Seem to remember they keenly priced back in the day.

Well I thought my username was obvious but if this is a musical confessional ... another ex-raver puts his hands in the air here :-bd
Legends in Warrington and Entropy in Stoke on Trent mainly, 90-93. Entropy was above a bus station depot, the windows of the whole place would be rattling and vibrating as you queued up outside. North West house/rave clubs were incredible then. Didn't go to Shelley's as much as I should have as Sasha was resident there for a while. Missed out there. Then I was a student in a city that was a centre for the Drum'n'Bass thing and that wasn't the same. A lot of attitude seemed to come with it. We started going to more techno nights but by the mid 90s I'd lost interest in clubs, just wasn't such a good scene after it all fragmented into niches and genres. Same for many things I guess. Specialism sucks
In the fine words of Hayseed Dixie - "I don't want to drink beer with no-one who only who only listens to one kind of music"... As a metal fan from a young age (Maiden mostly, also Metallica and AC/DC) these days I just drift from electronic to rock or metal and even vaguely country/ish Americana stuff as the mood suits.

My BB name is a (now fairly embarrassingly) pretentious one I used on STW when i first signed up there quite a long time ago. It was the name I gave my first 'proper' mtb (Rock Lobster 853). Yup, named after the character in Marlowe's play...#YoungEnglishLitw@nker

I don't name bikes anymore, and i'm now just an #Oldenglishlitw@anker. Usual form of address Matthew. Not going into music taste though

The Cumbrian is the name of a rock climb that I aspired to climb many moons ago, but due to a lack of talent and lardiness I never got anywhere near the grade. And I'm from Cumbria.

Cheers, Michael.

Mine is ported from STW where it was originally chosen around the time hidden motors in race bikes started to be rumoured. That combined with my general mechanical clumsiness and mucking about on bikes having replaced my youthful dabbling with various things led to the birth of mechanicaldope. Or Tom if you would prefer...

by Moff
Seemed to grown up in a era of Tim's so school friends decided (probably over beers before Friday afternoon Physics)that I'd become Timoth. This evolved into Moff which gave me a cool name (I was never cool) to go to uni with, where every yacht I raced on seemed to have another Tim on board so Moff stuck.
Felt a bit of a twonk introducing myself a Moff when I started working, so it's now reserved for friends and message boards!

* was a Grunge'r not a Raver - now don't care, if it's good, it's good (though that's subjective :grin: )

I am another who started using Blackhound on STW, and Gofar before that and it became my usual forum name across the interweb.

Back in Ireland (in the 60’s and out in the West) the Irish version of your name was used in the school register. My name was Caoimhín O’Cundubh - if I remember the spelling correctly. The Irish language was subdued from around Tudor times and many names were anglicised.

Anyway my surname translates to Blackhound which may have Viking origins. My mum still calls me Kevin though.

SeannyD,
Sean is my first name,
D is the first letter of my surname.
SeannyD lame extrapolation from Sunny Delight, the noxious ‘orange’ drink, that a friend started calling me, and has stuck (with her mostly) since then. Something to do with my lack of a sunny disposition.

Another ex-squaddie who served in Iraq, but Scud comes from being a messy bugger not to good at squaring kit away, and there was a headline in a paper that said "scuds make a real mess" or something similar and it just stuck..

Real name's Paul..

My name is Gian, Rhaeto-Romanic (family origin in the area where they speak that language) for John.

User name comes from the Alpine things I have around me when outdoors, one of the most symbolic would be the Edelweiss - Leontopodium Alpinum.

The Alps have been a playground and much more for me since I was a child. Hence the user name.

I can remember registering on GoFar back in the day to vent about tyres or something. I needed a forum name and I needed one fast even though we were on 56k dial up.

I didn't feel comfortable using my full name as I could foresee the Nigerian scam thing. So I made an anagram using my shortened forename and all but one letter from my surname.

Rich btw

Andy, or "Ahreet big lad?" Sometimes Lurch. Often <swearfilter>.

I never did get round to doing my entry for this thread.

Some of you know that in real life I go by the name Dave. Fewer of you will know that I wasn't born Dave, but changed my name when I was 19 (roughly), and that I'm actually named after Big Dave, the character from the King Pot Noodle advert of the early 00's (I swear I'm not making this up).

For a while my go-to online name was leftfootleashed, which arose from my dabbling with surfing, and later snowboarding, and the fact that I'm "goofy" (left)-footed, and hence stand right foot forward on board with the leash on my left. It stuck for a long time, and is still my email address, despite surfing being a short-lived hobby mainly due to a) living in Lincolnshire at the time, and b) having no talent for it whatsoever.

I wanted something that more accurately reflected my more recent interests, and came up with thenorthwind as a reflection of being a bit more generally outdoorsy, and a proud northerner. It's a bit abstract, but unlikely to go out of fashion  It actual comes from a line in a song by one of my favourite bands, The Cat Empire:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7-zhaoxAjk

Somewhere
The night is on the run
With a bottle of ouzo
And a rusty gun
The north wind
Is like a Spanish Guitar
Soaked in petrol
Burning on the bar

No, I don't really know what it means either, but it sounds good dunnit?
