just a quick consensus

Post by Mike »

So just gauging some reactions to a possible purchase

shimano grx groupset
Sram rival or force groupset......both with swanky new shifters rather than bar ends

Or my existing setup.....3 x 9 shimano with bar ends

Surely you first need to decide if you are going 2x or 1x. If the former then that's SRAM out of the equation anyway.

When going from 3x10 to 2x11 my choice was Shimano 50/34 cranks and a 11-40T cassette.

Sram rival certainly used to be available 2x11, as I have that on one of my bikes. It is a few years old though, so might only be 1x now?

Really liking my mechanical 1x11 GRX 800 setup so far...

Swapped onto a GRX sub-compact (46-30) chainset on my Cotic.

Handy bit of kit when carrying bags.

What bike?
Will it take a front mech?

The other option is a mullet setup, Eagle 1x12 with a 500% range and SRAM AXS dropbar shifters, pricey if you do it all at once however. The shifting is in a different league and always the same even when covered in clag.

I had a similar choice to make recently and went with 1x SRAM as I just don't miss a front mech off-road, or on really for that matter. It also helped that the SRAM bike was a better colour. :-bd
