Newbie - Exeter, Devon

Post by JimH »

Evening guys and girls,

Jim here from Exeter. 38 yo, overweight, slightly receding hair line. Looking for .... sorry wrong forum.

Just bought a MTB after many years on a roadie. Did LEJOG in 2011, Devon C2C last year and commute almost daily. Looking at bikepacking locally at first, maybe a Dartmoor trip soonish. Having read through some of the posts I see there’s a few active Devon based members so be good to meet up at some stage. I just need to get a bicycle together over the next couple of months.

Picked up a mint used Whyte 605 at a bargain price of £260 on eBay last week, collected locally which was ideal. Taking up to the Haldon trails tomorrow with a mate to get it muddy. Looking at a cheap tarp and bivvy set up to get me going and see if I get the bug.

Will check back soon, cheers

I do apologise, I invented a coma in between the 38 & yo. I read it as 38,YO!

Welcome on board Jim.
I’m Exeter(ish) and there’s plenty of SW folk who are regulars on here.
I wouldn’t necessarily rush into tarp camping on Dartmoor in February as your first go out. It might break you
Hope to see around some time though buddy.
If you are going through hell, keep going.

Keen is good and I don’t mean to be a kn0b and tell you what to do. For all I know you could be a Steely Eyed Commando who bivi’s in the buff. What I mean to say is unless you have your gear, technique and resolve dialled in you may not have the introduction to bikepacking that you want :grin
