Stats for the year (that was)

Hi all,
go on then, what were your stats for 2019?

Mine:

10,517 km total distance
120,620m climbing
6 bivvies (considering I aimed for a bivvy a month it's pretty poor)

Biggest and bestest ride: Big Bear 530

Lot's of home stuff going on prevented further play (building work, children's houses, etc etc)

I had set some targets and met or exceeded them all.

Average 1 x 50km ride per week
Average 1 x 100km ride per month
Average 150km total distance per week.

Also did my BAM, plus a few extra. I'll do a wee round up in another post.

Likely I'll do BAM again but I'm not chasing those other targets in 2020.

pleased with that, more distance but less climbing than last year. All fun like.
I suppose I need to move somewhere hillier!

12 pubs

56" of rain

1000 laughs

Of all else I neither know nor care

A fairly uninspiring year numbers-wise but some cracking moments in there if I think back.

You can see my periods of back injury as well as when my school started in September (almost no riding since) but next year is another story.... Oh boy will I go nice places and do good things!!!

Not as much distance as in previous years but still OK. Apparently I'd climbed the equivalent of Scafell Pike 147 time

You can clearly see when I cracked my fat bike frame and stopped ridding, and when I started riding my new gravel bike. Lots of swimming in between...

Glad to see a few more people apart from me using kilometres. Always seems right, as you go faster and further with them

Had a bit of a bad year in 2017, so 2018 I was mainly in recovery mode trying to get back near normal.

4223 km riding, 66858 metres of up is what I recorded on Strava, however it's probably nearer the 4500 km mark including rides I either had Garmin issues with or couldn't be bothered with logging.

The numbers don’t tell the real story however, lots of fun and some great rides with friends. Another year of bivvy a month, riding across Spain, trips with my lad.....thanks to everyone who has shared miles with me :-bd

I set myself a target to cycle at least 50 miles per week.

Dunnit! Ha! Some weeks I've done more and a few weeks I've doubled it.

I also wanted to use the bike for more trips where in the past I'd have used the car, eg to the shop or to visit my mum in the care home. I've done quite well at that too. I'm feeling quite smug about that o:-)

I've spent the whole year not paying attention to distance, speed or personal records. I have spent the year filling it with bikepacking tomfoolery with you lot and solo.

Some good stats though peeps, well done!

I binned Strava and all that poor show. Best year ever on the bike in terms of results. Stopped caring about recording started caring about remembering. Just back from a few days of who knows how far and how high but so happy.

Free yourself from the numbers.

:-bd keep it up.

20 - 30 % of my rides went without tracking, so no meaning full stats from my side.

...buy mostly road miles which probably don't count.

Tried it, didn't like it; my inner geek needs the graphs to be happy.

Fun year for me, with one big bikepacking adventure and a few smaller ones, plus lots of road miles.

As noted earlier I'm with you 'Goat and Mr Barter. The only records I've amassed recently are a pile of pre-loved punk rock vinyl ones  . But if you're a specialist in tomfoolery, shenanigans and absurdity you could do worse than bump into our mobile lunatic asylum on the Winter Event. The only sets of numbers we like are the irrational and transcendental ones. Real numbers are for squares and other polygons :-bd .

I do record, I was once fat, if I don't record I may get fat again thinking I'm doing more than I am ha.

I used to get lost in the average speed world. Now I cycle.

Here's mine

That's the furthest I've ever ridden in a year, over a 1000 miles more than my previous best, and most of it was on the singlespeed. Covering that distance meant I also rode (and bivied) in new places and made some new friends

Lowest distance for a few years, but also some of the most enjoyable riding for a while, and a useful consolidation of knowing what i want from riding. 1388 miles, garmin removed from bike and phone recording in my pocket helps to concentrate on the good stuff. Fewer miles but two 100 mile rides/bivvies in great places, some new places ridden and some rides I wanted to do, done. At least a couple of hundred miles on top of this for utility biking, which i enjoy a lot but don't tend to record, and I sold my car this year so utility biking is really coming into its own and cycling becomes part of life more.

I used to care more about data and distance, but now it's very much about riding for the feeling, and the mileage isn't that bad for a a dad of a small toddler working and commuting full time. :-bd

I had a little look historically. This has been my most active hours this year, but the fewest miles. Down 1-1800miles down but its been so so much fun and it's down to everyone on here. :-bd

Not many bivvies (about 7 nights out in total :(( )
Two duff knees
Lots of exercises as a result
A lot of hill walking ( :-bd ),
Lots of sitting in the fresh air eating sarnies and drinking tea (see bikepacking food thread)
Biking in -25 degrees C
Pushing my bike the most ever in one ride
Altitude record (1309m)
Getting down the steep nadgery descent on the postie path with only a couple of long dabs
Doing the singlespeed champs
Drinking a lot of 'golden ratio' at the above event
lots of crashes, but nothing beyond cuts and bruises
Some big grins
