Shades of The Beach here.... thankfully Scotland is too cold for such enterprise.

Some years ago one of the local farms became something of a 'science lab' and one of the local forests has a large amount of LSD buried within its trees that no one's yet found ....

That I can cope with - it's more the thought of stumbling upon armed and pissed off guards of such plantations in remote areas that worries me!

If you've ever seen the film Cliffhanger then it's based on a true story of a light plane crashing in the High Sierra that just happened to be carrying a cargo of illicit drugs. Local climbers found it and (allegedly) became rather wealthy on the proceeds

Edit: If you haven't seen the film, don't bother, it's laughably bad.

Can't see anyone having much success growing cannabis in the monoculture that is your average sitka spruce plantation....

I've been on a couple of yoga + trail running holidays around there. One of the locals told me that on certain hills you could see "suspicious looking spots" in the forest  . From discussion it sounded like a pretty open secret among the residents.

Looking at the density, if there were any in Wales, I'm pretty sure that Stu would send us through one on a BB200.

I wonder how many would make it to the far side? I've noticed a few BBers have a hint of Cheech and Chong about them.

Is that a reference to Operation Julie and one of it's focal points in Carno? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Julie

It's one i heard about early on in my time in Lampeter. Amazing to think that a Welsh LSD ring was responsible for 60% of the world's LSD supply at the time! Turns out Llanddewi Brefi was famous for more than just a bad comedy sketch about the only gay in the village.

We live in a valley exactly equidistant between the villages of El Perello and Rasquera. By accident we "belong" to Rasquera and go there for official things like getting our licence to burn olive brashings. Some post goes there but we have to drive the 10km to get it from the Correos which is open from 10-10.30 weekdays. The average age of the village is about 75 and there are several characters who fought in the Civil War. Most of our socialising is done in El Perello 10km the other way where there are running, cycling, football and handball clubs and a much more cosmopolitan feel.
Just after moving here, we heard rumours of a scheme that Rasquera had come up with to improve the local economy. They approved plans to lease land for cannabis production for a society based in Barcelona, not for sale as this is illegal. It even made the UK papers.

Needless to say, the plan went up in a puff of smoke

It will allow the association to plant on a seven-hectare stretch of town hall land – roughly the size of 10 football pitches.

Ha Ha how much do they need
