Any recommendations for a budget winter bothy mat? Not for me but a neighbour I took to a bothy and wants to do another trip. Would an un-insulated one be ok for winter bothy use?

If you can guarantee a sleeping platform then uninsulated should suffice*. If there's a chance of sleeping on the flags, I'd want something insulated.

If packed size isn't too much of an issue then how about: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CPJOMGIM/ ... e-mattress

Or is something shorter would suffice, this for a fiver less: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CPJOSEMIM ... amping-mat

*usual caveats apply.

Thanks Stu, yes it would be used on a sleeping platform.

slight hijack...

There was a kind gentleman at the #jennride giving away (for a charitable donation) rolls of some thin stuff for lying on to keep the moisture out.

I remember there were instructions for it to be one particular way up - but for the life of me ......

hijack reason - because I thought it would be good also for protecting your nice mat from those rough old flags

Writing side down. It's designed to let moisture through to the side with writing on.
