Ride / Race idea.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

'Trans', we've got trans this and trans that and it always appears to lack a little imagination?

In an effort to raise the profile of 'trans', for next summer, I propose the 'Trans sexual'. It'll be run in accordance with the usual ITT / self supported guidelines but every rider will have to dress as a member of the opposite sex and remain so for the duration of the ride.

Who's in? :-bd

That’s good but I think this is better:

Transcendental - No bikes, no bags, no route, just cross your legs and meditate your way round the course :-bd

How about going one step further and calling it a Time Independent Tour (TIT) instead of an ITT?

Anyway I'm out. I identify as a dirty non-gender specific bikepacker!

Given most riders wear much the same kit regardless of gender, I'm not sure this will produce much in the way of startling results.

On the basis that Jenny Graham has more balls than the rest of us put together, what category would she be in?

No, when I say dress as a member of the opposite sex, I didn't mean a member of the opposite sex while cycling, I meant more like how Jase is dressed here.

I don't think metaphoric balls actually count Colin.

On the contrary, I think it would do a lot to help raise awareness and besides, who doesn't like the opportunity to dress up from time to time?

Now there's a word I don't think I've seen since doing my geography A-level  Still relatively common in Spain I believe.

Whats the opposite sex to those folk who subscribe to gender fluidity? You've gotta be "something" to have an opposite, shirley?

A couple of fell running friends got married - as part of their wedding day they had a run/race where the men ran one way round the course and the women the other!

Yes, we passed a Museum of Transhumance on the Montañas Vacias trip a few weeks ago. We often hear the bells on herds of goats being brought down from the mountains around here.

Given that male and female cycling kit is essentially the same (barring some minor colour and sizing differences) is this not going to be pointless?? :???:

I agree that we should have events to raise awareness for the gender inequality in cycling, but calling it transexual would be mocking people who identify with a gender different to the one they were assigned at birth. The language and awareness of these terms may be relatively new, but people have always been like this. We do not have any control over the gender we identify as, just as we don’t have any control over the gender we were assigned at birth so cisgender people could not choose to be transexual for an event.

The more acceptable term for the people this event is trying to support would be cross-dressing, so another fast growing cycling niche.

I think you could be on to something here Stu, 10th Edition BB200 riders in fancy dress only!

Could also be a new angle for the padded/non-padded shorts debate, anyone any experience of riding in a G-String? Plenty of ventilation there

Maybe you could have a non-binary event. The route could go one way or the other, but you are not allowed to say.
