Tent Recommendations (sorry...)

So I need to pick up a 1 person lightweight tent. I had a Big Agnes (Fly Creek I think??) which I liked but no longer have so a replacement is needed. I'm sorted for bivvi/tarp stuff so looking for tent suggestions. Mr Barrington pointed me TrekkerTent Stealth which I like the look of but not sure if the 4 week leadtime is going to work. Need something in 2 weeks ideally. SportPursuit have a TerraNova Laser Comp 1 for £250 which seems like a bargain (against RRP). I've used someone else's Sierra Designs High Side which I liked but not sure I could get one here on time. SMD Lunar Solo also looks good but again probably struggling to get here in time.

I'm looking for something light with a small/flexible pack size.

Anything I've missed that I should be looking at? Completely out of touch with this stuff now. If anyone has anything used they want to try and sell me, I'm all ears!!

Cheers

Steven

Funnily enough I've just written (or nearly) a review of an Exped Vela Extreme (there is a UL version) and it's brilliant. Plenty of room inc head and porch. Pitches very quickly and only requires 4 pegs. The whole front opens up for those nice nights. Pitches together or outer only or even inner only if you like. Pack size and weight are good and both could easily be reduced.

You should find one on-line for sub £300.

I'd rate it way above any Laser.

I’ve been using a telemark2 for a while, very happy with it at 950g, big enough for two at a pinch. :-bd

I ordered a trekker tent over a month ago and still on back order apparently - not a problem, as I'm in no hurry. The Exped looks good, but over twice as heavy - so overkill?
If you get stuck I've a NF Mountain Marathon you can borrow (as a thanks for the lovely Stooshie) - 1.4Kg and a bit bulky, but fits a bar roll easy enough. https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/v ... 20&t=33951

Is that the new version, with side entry?

I don't think so

Do you know him scotroutes? I'm not really in a hurry and more than happy to wait for a product made to order in UK.

Nah, I just know there's a new version in development. I have a DCF tarp from Marc and am very happy with it. Mate has a Stealth too. He had a problem after the first night out but it was caused by his clumsiness. Marc did a foc repair regardless.

Possibly but I suppose it depends what you want it for. It certainly compares reasonably well to many other more mainstream tents (Laser, etc). Also, remember the weight inc' things like poles, substantial pegs, heavy duty bags etc. It's probably also about twice the size of a Stealth with regard to internal space.

Absolutely - my clumsy wording. I meant that it might be a bit overkill for a light and fast type bike packing set up. For an all round, lightweight tent, it looks spot on and quality will no doubt be good.

There's an Expeditor Mira 1 man, 1.2Kg on eBay too for £235, in Kilbirnie.

Having the SMD Gatewood tarp I'd say the Lunar Solo which would come in at around 850g inc pegs and pole. The SMD Gatewood with the Serenity inner would give you a flexible inner, outer or both set of options at around 750g. If it was just bug protection that you wanted then the Sea2Summit Nano would provide that at 80g so Gatewood + Nano + pole and pegs would be 530g or so.

We've the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 which is only 1.5kg but it's inner first pitching so depending on where you are going might not be the best but since you've used a Fly Creek you'll be used to it. There's the one man version (including the version with "bikepacking friendly" poles) of the Copper plus very similar models from MSR and Alpkit.

If you don't get sorted, I've a Lasercomp that you could borrow but I'll be honest in that it's pretty claustrophobic in comparison to any of the above.

Thanks for all the input chaps. I've just had a really good long conversation with Marc at TrekkerTent and happy to say I'm going to go with a Stealth. Now, just need to work out where I can get some poles

Ooh, sounds like it might be here for October overnight. Hoping to cut down some old Easton poles.

If you use the footprint groundsheet you can pitch outer first (or not even use the inner) on the copper spur.

Hmmm, I haven't. I guess I could give a nudge.
