First off, ten bonus points to the first person who gets the reference.....

Ok, so I saw a Kickstarter thingy for a new combination drop/flat bar and thought it worth sharing - enjoy!

Not sure about the reference but I for one would feel a bit of a cult with those on the bike

It was the gay bar from Police Academy wasn’t it?

Could take some fairly tricky manoeuvres with cable or hydro splitters in order to have braking on the flat and drop sections... I'm envisioning something like sti shifters, cable disk brakes and either odd cable routing to some cross top levers or a second set of levers and a couple of BMX cable detangler parts...

You could also do similar with any flat bars and some origin-8 drop bar ends?

Having said all that, I would like to give that kind of set-up a go!

Honestly? I really don't know.

I'm wondering what the advantage is over wide drop bars that are set up nice and high :???:

They'll sell a few as they're different, but there could well be a reason no one else has done bars like these before......

So are they gay bars or oyster bars?

I see the logic and got as far as scribbling something similar on a scrap of paper a few months ago, thinking it was how I’d finally make my fortune.

IMO they score over wide flared drops by having the ‘downhill/off-road’ grips higher than the drops. That means you’ve still got low drops for aero.

Brake set up would be a giant pain in the arse, though. And it would be hard to optimise reach for all those different hand positions.

Probably a wrong turn, I reckon, but I’d like to try them.

I'm sure someone can do something with a pair of these and some wide flats.

works well with death grip :-bd

I like it, just because it's bold and looks stupid.

Brilliant, I'm in with a chance.

I can't see how the 'cockpit' [STW patter] could be set up in order to accommodate all the different hand positions. The same as how one's position will be off if one simply switches drop bars for flat bars (or vice versa) without also changing stem length/rise, stack height, saddle height and fore/aft.

Which is why one also cant just add those extensions and expect them to be any use either

Wow! When a bar is deemed too kooky on this forum, you know it must be truly out there! :-O

Only if they're carbon, don't fit and he can take 'em back tomorrow

Would they work with the new shimano grx groupo that has flat bar brake levers plumbed into the lines from the drop bar levers?? (i.e. a hydraulic cross top type of thing)
Otherwise a recipe to be on the wrong bit of the bar at the wrong moment i.e when you need to grab a handful of brake.....

Stupid

What I would be interested in is a woodchipper with some back sweep on the tops and a more acute transition from the tops to drops :-bd

25 degree back sweep on the tops will straighten out the drops nicely. :-bd
