Another tip for the newbies is get hold of an Isle of Man Manx Telecom PAYG Sim. They do a pay sim which outside the IOM road on to ALL of the UK Mobile networks for free. That way you can carry a phone that WILL work IF there is signal on any UK network. Very handy if you need to be contacted or if you have an issue, you can get help. Free to rx calls and sms, about the same price as a UK PAYG to call/sms UK numbers.

Another newbie tip for use in areas with bad mobile coverage, the SMS999 service as sometimes you don't have enough signal for a call but a SMS might get through. As recommended by the Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team who cover the BB area

If we are looking at emergency calls then enable "location services" or whatever it's called on your phone. Mountain rescue teams use a system called SARLoc (Search And Rescue Location) whereby they send you a text with a link in it. Click on the link and it opens up a map in your phone's browser and sends your location back to MRT. No need to install an app. There's also OSLocate which isn't quite as convenient.

On some GPS units (I know the Garmin Oregon does this, not sure about Dakota or Etrex) you can set a data field to show your current position as a ten figure OS grid reference. If you are somewhere without phone reception you'll obviously need to note it down before finding somewhere to make a call.

There's also AML (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Mobile_Location
) which automatically sends your location when calling the emergency services, this has been on Android for a few years and on iOS for not quite as long, from version 11.03 (about March 2018).

Myself, reg and Peter were that way on Thursday and if you have the same weather it's not the easiest place to ride through ( not quite as down as bugeilyn but in the general area)

When the hell have I ever had my bikes actually ready to ride?!? Clearly that's why I had such a bad crash, the universe needed to re-align things and ensure I wasn't ready to ride.

Sounds like the masses will be heading to the Star Inn on Friday. Is anyone staying in Llanbrynmair? The Wynnstay Arms does bed and breakfast for £25. Is there a catch? Seems convenient and economical.

Searching the forum reveals something about it being a themed pub... or 'Wales in 1972' themed as Ian Fitzy put it.

I stayed there in 2014 they were very friendly but room was a bit weird as it had a child’s cot in it. Felt like I was in the first five minutes of a horror film.
