Ergon or esi

Just had 2 fullish days with the Jones bars I had out of the classifieds,had some old on one foam grips knocking about and now 16hrs and 130 mile later my palms are throbbing ,I know it's everyone to their own but which is most preferred

I personally couldn't get on with the palm rest on the Ergon. I tried a number of different positions, rotating the grip, but whatever I did they made my little fingers go numb.

I'm using Superstar lock ons with Cane Creek Ergo Bar ends.

I'd say Ergon as (don't they seem to) have more R&D into the grips in terms of dexterity and all that jazz. As opposed to ESI which (seem) are just chunky grips!

I'd say not Ergon...aren't they ergonomically designed to be used on a low sweep (9 deg etc) bar?
Aren't your ergonomics rather different on a Jones?
Doesn't mean they won't/don't work mind.

I found the little wing on ergons worked great on flat bars but not sure if they'd work on swept bars

I've got Ergons on my On One Og bars and they're very comfy. Maybe better gloves ?

Using some very nice gel padded gloves so I know it's not them

Personal preference IMHO. I always get aching palms after about 4 hours or so with standard grips - on the outside by the smaller fingers and ergon stops this on all bikes and all bars i have used - though i dont have anything like a Jones bar

The only bike i have without them is my SS as they are not that great [ i have not even tried them] for standing up rowing up hills etc

Don't they make Ergons for Jones / swept bars? I'm sure Mike's got them and he reckoned they were good.

My experience of ESI is mixed - comfy but can become slippery when wet and not overly long lasting.

Cheers for the offer ,but as impatient as I am already ordered a pair ,they'll be in the classifieds in a couple of weeks if I don't get on with them, but as I said I loved them on my flats

Nah stu , Mike just bought the cork posh ones for his bars, but your right he ain't moaned about them so must be ok

Some giro Roady gloves can't really the model but the padding is quite thick

I've got ergons on my Jones's. Really happy with them (previously used ESI) very comfortable.

Just added some ergon GA3 grips to my stooge Moto bars and couldn't believe the difference in comfort they've made. The GA3 is sold as an MTB grip so is smaller than the usual style. Stopped me dropping my wrists when seated but are then unnoticeable when decending... Gonna try them on the trail bike now as well.

Ergons and gloves with gel inserts works fine for me.

I had the cork Ergons first off but found the black ones have much more flex.

Dont forget MAM... You can also try them cheaper ergons without the massive palm area. They still get amazing reviews and I have some sat waiting to go on at some point... ergon ga3 is one such sort which can probably be found for under 20 if you looked around...

I use Ergon GE1s on my "normal" bars. T They are much less contoured but are amazing for the comfort of my hands.

For my Jones bars I use that foam grip made for "butterfly" touring bars. This means it can be much longer than a normal grip and I mount my controls right up near the joint in the Loop Bars.
