Garmin Tempe

Post by sean_iow »

I've just bought a Garmin Tempe so I can record the temperature on my eTrex, when riding but also interested to leave it on overnight to see what the temperature drops to.

Just interested where and how other users (I'm sure there must be some on here) mount theirs?

Meant to get one prior to the Finland trip but never got round to it so interested to see how it works out.

Mine is normally mounted on my wildcat lion strap just in front of my bars.
Seems to work fine there.

I've got one and just keep it in a plastic bag in one of the bags near the main unit.

Mine is on the "leash" I have on my Oregon.

FWIW, I reckon it always reads around 3-4C higher than it should.

Funny you should say that as I thought mine was being optimistic so I put it in the fridge earlier, it only went down to 6 degrees so I think it's 2 degrees high. In my lounge it was the same as my Edge 500 which I also think is 2 degrees high, must be a Garmin thing?

£1.50 - sounds like it'd be just as accurate only smaller / lighter

Only for training, I'll take out the equivalent weight of ballast to keep the load the same

I can hardly see that on my screen zoomed in to twice life size, I'd never be able to read the temperature even with my glasses

Does that have a minimum temp on it, so you can see how chilly it got overnight?

No, but I can just leave my eTrex recording overnight and use that to see how cold it got.

This is one of the main reasons for getting it, so I can see the minimum temperature overnight and correlate that to the kit I had and how cold I was and then use that data and the forecast for future trips to select the right kit.

The other reason for buying one is I like gadgets

Good find!
I did actually go looking for a mini thermometer and failed - ideally one thats waterproof and digital for my dodgy short range eyesight - but that will do. Wheres it come from?

i just found the pic via Google but I'm assuming China.

Actually, there's loads out there inc digital. Also, plenty with a probe so you could measure the temp both inside and outside your sleeping bag or any number of other comedy uses.
